John Mayer did something very cool. He started making money and fame with his ´pop singer´ thing, but soon he moved to show the world his musician side, recording a live trio album and performing with Clapton and John Scofield.

He's still very much unknown in England. I've yet to hear him on the radio despite his recent gigs over here and interview in Guitarist magazine.

John is like a good amalgamation of Dave Matthews and Stevie Ray with a heaping helping of Jimi.

The kewl thing is he is trying to turn people on to the blues and it's orignators.

I agree with this, even though I don't really get into Mayer. He's a very good guitar player. Obviously hugely influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Though his music is not so blues oriented as SRV, his tone is a dead ringer for Stevie's. And there are probably a million guys who are trying unsuccessfully to sound like that.

I think Mayer is a smart guy, making good choices, but he's not very interesting. He's not going to come out with Lovesexy or Parade. He's not going to perform like Prince or take all the chances Prince does/did. He's going to be a famous, respected musician who gets to have sex w/gorgeous women. Not a bad life, but not Prince.

Mayer is an ugly overinflated musician - his guitar skills aint even all that

There is absolutley zero common thread between these guys

Plus Mayer is a complete ass to his fans on stage (trust me I've seen him on three different occasions and he has proved his snobbish nature time and time again)

Or "How to make others ignore my opinion on any future post I make."

"His guitar skills aint even all that..." yeah sure, he really sucks. Guitarists that are lacking always have signature models released to the masses (as opposed to limited runs of Custom Shop models) by Fender.

John Mayer is a great guitarist, but don't use this argument to "prove" his skills. I believe one of the guitarist from Blink 182 has his own signature guitar so this argument goes right out of the window. lol

Yep I agree, plus from a girl's point of view I can't see what all the fuss is about. Yep maybe him and Prince both treat women bad at times, but Prince has something more to get away with it(not that its acceptable)

Oh. Well discount everything I just said. Hold on though, is it a Squire or real Fender? Let's use the Custom Shop argument then, 'cause let's face it you've gotta be fairly good to have a model made that's gonna cost upwards of £1600 smile

Mayer is still young, compare the two guitarist at the age he is now, i think they like one another alot. Prince was rumored to have had seats at Mayers concerts and Mayer looked forward to him actually sitting in them LOL. I cant wait to see what he and D Angelo come up with.

There should be more duets nowadays. I would love to see them work together.

Of the last 20 years, John Mayer's catelog of music is the only other body of work that I have admired as a whole other than Prince's. I really can't nail down what the common thread may be but I have a feeling that other Prince fans may feel the same. I wanna know what you think they may have in common and if you think a collabortion could happen in the future. I never have heard of P giving props to Mayer but I would bet he admires his work and Mayer's guitar skills. Give me some feedback please.

I totally disagree. I don't care for John Mayer's body of work. He's got some good tunes here and there, but overall, no comparison to Prince. It is silly to assume that Prince would admire his body of work just because he is a guitarist/songwriter.
