Maybe this is a silly question but Bend in the wind? What does that mean??? [Edited 9/10/08 18:15pm] [/quote] I think he means that the woman he's with gotta take it when it gets hard, rough, without breaking down. He simply needs a strong woman who can handle a life together with him - even when it's not a bed of roses.

Great track, and probably his best ballad since 'She Loves Me 4 Me' (another missed single opportunity).
FBM has a strong, interesting melody that sounds like classic Prince, and it would hold up with or without the 'retro '87' production.

just wondered how you'd interpret this line? OK . There once was a girl who arrived at the castle Paisley Park. She wasn't wealthy but looked really pretty and when the Prince laid his eyes on her, she started to really shine from the inside, and the Prince was absolutely captured by her beauty. The night ended with them dancing really close, but suddenly she ran away. On the way out from Paisley Park, she lost one of her pumps. The Prince just couldn't forget about the beautiful, mysterious girl he'd just held in his arms, and searched all over the country to find his sweet princess. He did! And they got married! Unfortunately she didn't pass the test. She simply refused to jump into lake Minnetonka... [Edited 9/11/08 13:24pm]

One of the worst Prince songs from the last 10 years. Although Mister Goodnight is even more worse.

Well, tastes differ of course.
To me Mr. Goodnight just sounds like something he did write in 30 minutes and recorded on auto-pilot. I dont hear any real effort or inspiration in that song. Next to that, i think its rather annoying when a mature, 50 yo old man tries to emulate a 17 yo 'pimp-wannabe' in his lyrics... lol

I want a man to say that to me and a man that fine, would be icing on the cake! All the girls trying to get with Prince listen to this song. They got to "bend in the wind but dont break" HOLLA
Maybe this is a silly question but Bend in the wind? What does that mean??? [Edited 9/10/08 18:15pm] Especially during the worse times in my life I hold on to the truth of Love, irregardless as to how much life might lie and say my Love does not exist. To survive in the lie, I bend but I do not break. I have a special place in my heart for this song. [Edited 9/12/08 11:58am] I saw Prince cry

[Edited 9/10/08 18:15pm] Okay, I'm guessing but 'Bend in the wind' might mean that Prince wants someone to be there for him. Regardless of what it looks like on the surface or to the public, he might actually want a different 'someone.' But since WE demand that he is into the youngest and someone pretty, someone who really loves him has to understand and 'bend with the wind.' He might want us to realize that it's society and the media that want him there. Prince might not want to be 'there' along with the insecurities and false values of a young pretty one, but it is his celebrity, fame and fans that demand it. Can anyone imagine our Prince wanting just to be loved without all the fan fare and expectations? So to me anyway, 'bend with the wind' means let Prince give em what they want (or what they think they want) and be content to sit in the background finding ways to make him smile. I saw Prince cry

Yeah, I do agree... When I first heard it I knew it was special... regardless of what anybody thinks "bend in the wind" means... Maybe he is referring to being able to pass gas and not care who is around got Prince?

What's funny about this thread is that my brother, who is a casual Prince fan, just told me yesterday that he made a CD for his girlfriend and ended it with this song. He was saying how it is such a tight slow jam. Adult R&B/Urban radio ate this song up here in Chicago, and rightfully so. It's a cut. I never understood why people around here dogged it.
I loved this song from the first moment I heard it. It's got it all - a sexy/romantic vibe, nice melody, seductive vocal delivery and a story. You've got a man who is in search of "the one." He can give her whatever she wants but it comes with a price so she needs to be able to deal with it without losing herself or the relationship. He thought he had her before but it was only a fantasy/illusion, i.e. Cinderella. So he's still looking, hoping with a childlike naivete for fantasy and reality to meld and produce his future baby mama. He's at a point in his life where he realizes that it's about more than looks and superficial trappings. He now knows that a relationship has to be built on a much stronger, deeper foundation. It's a mature ballad about the eternal dream of love. Sorry, but I fail to see what this has to do with Mayte. Prince and Mayte have moved forward in their own SEPARATE lives and from the sounds of it, some of you need to as well. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
