Of course there is. In Europe, we write day/month/year, so this is october the 13th.

Which makes far much more sense going from smallest to largest. I remember Stewart Lee making fun of the world accepting "9/11" as a specific date (hey, that's today), wondering whatever happened on 9th November.

LOL ~ When I went to England and had to go through customs, we had to fill out a form with our birthday. I had put down my birthday as 10/28/?. The guy at customs scratched it out and rewrote it as 28/10/?. I smiled and said (without thinking btw), "Oh you all do it backwards over here." The customs officer in his very British droll voice said, "No Madam. We do it right." eek lol

lol Yeah, I went to get in the car on the driver's side, thinking it was the passenger side there too! eek <--- That was the look I got with a "You're going to drive?"

And driving on the wrong side of the road?? I kept expecting some car to come around a corner and crash into us!

And what's up with the mailboxes over there looking like fire hydrants on steroids??? lol

You know what? I posted this information stupidly thinking that people on the org would be interested. What happens? A bunch of anti-England comments are posted. I happen to come from England!

Different countries have different ways of doing things...just because there are probably more Americans on here than any other nationality, does not mean that the way things are done in America are the right ways.

Next you'll be saying that our English isn't very good and that we say vitamin and tomato wrong...wonder where English comes from?!

I'm sorry PurplePony. I didn't post comments as an "anti-England" statement in any way. I was more poking fun at my naivete when I traveled there. It most definitely was an eye-opener for me that just because things are done one way where I live, doesn't mean that things can't be done another way, and probably more efficiently. Those were good lessons for me, and good memories for me. So I apologize sincerely if you felt they were intended in any way to anti-England.

I don't think i have heard anybody mention this before but perhaps the release date is being pulled about because the Prince camp are trying to organise a promotional apperance/performance to coincide with the book launch. Maybe?

Stay safe! (And why aren't you evacuating???) I'm in the south too and we are constantly dealing with the effects of the hurricane season. I'm far enough inland that we don't get the full brunt of it, but we do get the storms (with tornadoes).

If you asked an Englishman, a Scotsman, a Welshman and a Northern Irishman what nationality they were, you wouldn't hear them say "British". End of.

Again, this was supposed to be a discussion re the book not debating nationality.

Not the end of!

All of the British Isles use the date format of dd/mm/yyyy therefore any comments about that format being 'wrong' is a slight against all Brits not just the English.

If indeed you took a poll of a group of English, Scot's, Northern Irish and Welsh people, the one's that would come back more stating that they were British would more than likely be the English. But I am still confused as to why it was that you thought that they were anti-english and not anti-british remarks? Just asking....

maybe because english is older than the term british. The language we speak is english not british and yes I suspect most english people would say they were english before saying british. the govenrment is trying to promote 'britishness' even though govenrment has been relinquished to scotland and wales.

yes we all live on a group of islands that geographically have been lumped together but we are all quite different nationalities. The welsh say they are welsh the northern irish - northern irish and the scots scottish. Its a fact of life.

I know some americans refer to us collectively as british but most people Ive met of different nationalities, upon hearing me speak say to me that I am english they dont use the term british.

I think this collectiveness is a way of dissolving our identities the same way as people refer to people as being west indian without actually specifying where exactly they come from, all quite unique countries.

with regard to the book - I think we all knew it would not release on time, the only good news is that a new release date has been quoted which suggests that it exists and is in production.

Oh and 13/10/08 is the correct way to write the date in english. In anglo-american it is correct to write 10/13/08.

In case some of you hadnt noticed americans do not speak english they speak anglo-american, which is quite different.

13/10/08 is not ENGLISH! it is a date format that is used in Great Britain! As for the lecture on Englishness and Britishness? whit does that have to do with the date format used in Britain. ( not JUST the date format used in England)
