A hundred years from Now.

A hundred years from Now.

Those of us that have followed Prince's career from the late 70's throughout today in a linear fashion..definitely have a deeper understanding...than those that picked and chose cd's out of sequence, merely because we were in the time frame...of the music scene while it was happening. Just like an Elvis fan would have a deeper insight buying his records when they were released.

Overall, a century from now will bring kids into the music world and Prince will be a known artist.
What is your opinion on Prince's reputation?
Do you believe Prince will be most remembered for the guy that sang 1999, in a purple coat? or The Purple Rain Prince? The Rainbow Child? The Musicologist?(Not to exclude any year or album as a further earned musical reputation, where an isolated time frame labels Prince in some musical fashion?)
Or Do you believe that Prince will be known for his entire career's delivery?

Perhaps it depends on how the radio keeps Prince in their airplay?
Maybe it depends on how the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, displays Prince's dedicated belongings.
Maybe Prince's reputation depends on whether or not Prince himself gives society a museum that offers Prince music through educating the visitors.

I am surprised no one has responded to this thread. If Prince fans now, don't look at Prince's reputation as only..."Mr. Purple Rain." How is the world going to see Prince a hundred years from now, If that isolated time period..of 84'-85' is the Prince musician that is illuminated.

Maybe it doesn't matter. What do you think Prince would want?

The genertion has changed. Majority of these kids r stuck on the hip hop and rap with negative vibes. Its all about how r generation actually tell the story and history of Prince 2 the youngsters of 2day so they can understand the art and music and the man himself. My girls ain't a big Prince fan like me and my friends but they do like some of his music and appreciate the lyrics and art that is behind the artist. Like my girls say it actually takes a history lesson 2 understand life itself.

Keep up the poetry Tame. Eventually we will reach the 1s we have 2 with GOD's help and Guidance. eye yes prince angel

I agree prplrasta...That is why I am hoping that "Musical society," immortalizes Prince with the spiritual respect that He deserves as well as the "Guitar legend," Purple guy. Associating purple with Prince and his royal contribution to the music business is a beautiful thing...although I feel Prince is so much more than that, with the way he has reached into the spiritual heart with compassion.

I want for Prince...to have that association known...not Prince limited to the risk taking "Darling Nikki." writer that created the parental advisory labels.

We do our individual contributions, although...radio and tv...create a reputation.

Right now, besides people on here, I am kinda shocked about what regular (we are so superior) people know about Prince's music. Most people either think 'Purple Rain' was real cool, or ewww, he's that weird, freaky guy. I hope 100 years from now more can see the total body of his work and his amazing talent. My kids aren't into him either. But I hope when they get older they will say, turn that up. It's Prince. My mom used to listen to that all te time. He's cool.
Peace. Love. Prince

He'll be remembered for changing his name to a symbol and a handful of super-hits that will still be in the public consciousness:

1999
Little Red Corvette
Let's Go Crazy
When Doves Cry
Purple Rain
Kiss
U Got The Look

I think that the media obviously plays a HUGE role in how P is perceived by non-P fams.

I think that in order for him to be looked on with respect by generations of the future, the media [and also us fams] will have to help make his reputation more admirable.
