have any of you ever sang karaoke to a Prince song, cover, or related artist? i'd really like to hear about your stories--whether you rocked or died a most painful death.

i haven't attempted a Prince song, but i did do "i feel for you" with a friend. the funny thing was, as i was singing, i couldn't remember how the Chaka Khan version went even though that was the music playing. i just sang along to the sound of Prince's voice in my mind. people thought i was being original. LOL

i do all the time- i'm famous at a bar near me for doing "erotic city" and "darling nikki". it's a total goddamned blast!

I've done Erotic City a bunch of times. The first time, one of my friends sorta twisted my arm, but since then I've done it a bunch of times. It's a fun song to sing, especially when I can get my girlfriend to do the chorus with me

did Batdance once when i was really drunk. kept veering off into 200 Baloons and Rave... nobody knew what the fuck i was singing.

I sing Let's Go Crazy in my band. As far as karaoke, I've only sung Kiss . I would really love to sing The Beautiful Ones or belt out Darling Nikki, but the karaoke I go to doesn't have those songs . I am probably going to buy a Prince karaoke with those songs on there so I can practice up on them & then bring the with when I go out to do karaoke & see if the karaoke dj will let me sing them.

Anyone have any recorded versions of themselves singing a Prince tune?

I won $100 singing "Kiss" here in Salt Lake. I also won a karaoke contest at the Celebration last year. Nobody has better music to emulate in karaoke than Prince!

At our Karaoke bars they only seem to have Kiss and LRC. I wish I had the opportunity to sing stuff like Erotic City or Batdance

I've had 2 experiences singing Prince songs at karaoke bars, one was positive and one was not.

The first was with my then girlfriend, and I had quite a bit to drink. I looked through the songbook and found Delirious. I was tipsy, so I was pretty loose. It went over well and I felt pretty good about it.

As fate would have it, I went to a xmas party with the same girl and she picked a song without me knowing. I got called up in front of all her co-workers, and suddenly "Letitgo" starts. I was nervous, especially when I started the first verse and could hear that there was no harmony tracks, just me. The song doesn't work so well without that unison vocal, and I suffered (as I'm sure the crowd did) through it, shaking my head while singing it.

I would do it again though, just not that song, any other.

I´ve sung "Little Red Corvette" in japanese Karaoke-Bars many times. I used to stay there for some months to do an apprenticeship. My japanese pals always wanted me to sing it and I loved it.

Some dork would come to a local bar every Wed night for Kareoke and sing Purple Rain in monotone. It was horrible, I would have to step outside and have a smoke cuz I couldnt take it.

A little side note, a bar near my house used to have Lovesexy in the jukebox (totally suprised me). Anyhow, i tried to play Alphabet Street one night, only to find out the CD wasnt tracked, so it started from the beginning and played the whole damn thing. About 3/4 of the way through people in the bar started complaining so the bartender had to manually restart the jukebox to get it off. I had a big cheese grin on my face.

I do kiss and the most beautiful girl and some times Betcha By Golly Wow when they have it. when i go to kareoke its the first thing I look up to see what they have in Prine usually they have the main stuff and some suprises

At my high school project graduation party, me and my friends did 1999. This past July, we had our class reunion and the DJ played Erotic City and everyone remembered that I was a Prince fan. I did not dance the entire night but, when that song came on, they were like come on girl, it's Prince...you know you wanna dance and of course, I had to get my dance on!

Did 'Kiss' once last year and despite my less-than-angelic voice it was pretty cool. A couple of mates of mine reminded me about it again last weekend. The 'performance' featured a few bad moves (I was pissed) and holding the mic out to the crowd to say the 'Kiss!' bit, which actually worked (they were my mates though).

I did kiss mith two friends and people were first real surprised to see us sing in high pitched voice!!! then we got real cool reactions... Still wondering how I jad the courage to do this...

i heard from a good friend of mine in LA, that some guy shows up to several karaoke places there and just rips up "Kiss," with some girls by his side.

can you believe that the karaoke places around here don't have ANY Prince songs? me neither.

:I: do a run of "Kiss" and "Sex Machine" complete with dance routines, running around the building, jumping on tables when possible and singing and bumpin' with anything that looks remotely cute in the place!

All in the name of fun, but with a 150+ strong audience, who am :I: 2 complain!!!

i have not...but a friend of mine did once at this little dive with shitty singers (except her of course...she's da bomb!!) and about 15 people in the entire joint!!! she sang 'kiss' and it sounded like the background music was by 'the countdown singers'...what a travesty!!! oh well it was a good time!!!

I sang Purple Rain with a bunch of friends in an Irish pub when I was 17.We won a purple stuffed rabbit which is still sittin on one of my friends' desk 2day

I have sang Purple Rain, Kiss, 1999 and alot of Lenny Kravitz, all done very poorly but I try to fit in a rendition of The Electrice Man. Everyone seems to like it when I start shouting about charge you like nobody can!

I went to karaoke last night & was asking the dj if I bought my own Prince karaoke cd, would he let me bring it in to do some of the songs he doesn't have in his inventory. Low and behold, he just bought a new Prince karaoke cd that had Sexy M.F. & The Beautiful Ones. Well, he said that the bar owner might not like me singing Sexy M.F, so I tried my hand at The Beautiful Ones. It was at the very end of the night (about 2:30 AM) & there were only about 25-30 people left in the bar. I didn't think I would be able to hit the screams at the end, but I thought "What the heck...not many people left...I was drunk...they were drunk...I'm gonna go for it!" As soon as I starting singing, a lot of the girls that were there hit the dance floor for some slow-grooving (chicks just love that song).
