What is "The Word?"

Based on the lyrics to the song...do you have any idea's?

What is this new xhaltation that I just can't xplain?

"What does Prince mean by shiny lips not being streets of gold?" - He means that no matter how beautiful and/or sexy a woman is he knows she cannot save his soul. She's never going to be as beautiful, desirable, or as important to him as getting to heaven with it's 'streets of gold'.

"What is The Word?" - (Don't ya want to know the Word?) ..Again he is asking don't you want to hear? Don't you want to know the Word of our Lord and saviour - Jesus Christ. Tis, simple. The Word is the The New World Translation and he is speaking about being buttered up by other preachers telling you beautiful things, but offering no real exaltation.

He actually says; We got this new xhaltation..Talkin' 'bout The Word' so it's clear what the word is.

Byw; isn't there a line in the bible that says the bible is the word of god?

The thing is...is that Prince knows...that quite a few of us already know..."The Bible's" Word...and have Jesus sitting on the throne of our soul's already...
When Prince says, "We've gotta safeguard against 4ked tounge, and the treachery of the wicked one," I believe that is the negative energy that still roams the halls of this world and even in this forum surrounding Prince.

I don't know when a few of these "girls...I'm guessing," will start treating Prince like a spiritual man that is a legend guitar player...on an International site...

They seem to see Prince in one light...and ramble on about 1980 photo's..They are the spiders...I think to myself pleasse....Let's bring Prince's sexuality a little deeper, and add a heart to him 20 years later.....that's some of the forks we have to deal with.

All u Christians should know a little more about your religion. I'm Jewish but I know that somewhere or other the gospels refer to Christ as "logos" which means "word" and that's a major concept in Christina theology.

He's talking about Jesus. Now, if all you Bible-heads and fams don't get it, he's not very successful at getting the word across, is he.

In both instances, he is singing about a more personal experience with The Word, or the Divine. Keep in mind that in the Bible, using most other translations besides the NWT, it states "In the beginning the Word was, the Word was with God, the Word was God." But it also states, "I in Union with my Father, and my Father in Union with me..." In 3rd Eye, Prince sings, "Your God is inside and 4 that God U will do". This has been a reoccuring theme in many, many, many of Prince's songs, and continued even after people said he became a JW.

For instance in The Rainbow Children he sings in Everywhere
"Now I know that it's written in the heart
Now I'm ready, ready 2 start

Without God it wasn't there
Now I feel it Everywhere

We were always meant 2 b
In paradise eternally
B4 the truth I did not care
Now I feel it Everywhere"

He sings that he feels paradise everywhere, and that the truth is written in the heart.

And in the Everlasting Now he sings:

"No longer lead by the ways of men
He looked 4 the kingdom deep within
That's when the drums in his head began 2 pound"

All of this points to looking within the find Truth, which has been a running theme in Prince's music for a very long time, and continues to this day. His lyrics have always pointed inwards for finding, but more importantly as is shown in The Word and in Thunder, experiencing God.
