If Prince's music was a dish, what would the recipe be?

this and http://prince.org/msg/7/280163
are a couple of things that came out of that "prince and the funk myth' thread... so anyone who was going cross-eyed trying to read all 15 pages post your thoughts here

So- the way i saw it.. pretty much everyone agreed that funk was atleast an ingredient in Prince's music. The difference of opinion seems to be whether is a base ingredient, a regular ingredient or just used as a little seasoning..

Is he a tomato based pasta sauce, where funk is a basis for everything he does, and everything else is added in.

Is he using something else as a base, like rock or soul?

Is he making an asian stirfry? With equal amounts of a range of ingredients and each creation a completely new recipe.

Is his music some sort of curry, which uses a range of ingredients, but which he serves up with a diffrent staple (eg bread/rice/potatos: funk/rock/r&b) depending on his in the mood for?

how would you use food to descripe the music of Prince?

yeah, but .. you have to expect alot of garbage to come.. cause unfortunately everyone isnt mature enough to discuss a nice serious musical thread .. without all the condescending and belittling of other's opinions..... that's how folks (so called musical folks) operate in this forum... my twocents .... and oh, dont forget.. they have to name call people also to prove a point... that YOU are wrong and they are right ...

I've noticed this... which is why I went to a little effort into thinking about this thread topic.. starting away from the name calling and belittling. I was interested in people's thoughts, and I thought this nuetral ground.

Is the original post not being read?

I mean I'm not even getting condescention, just cutesy crap.

Maybe this is a boring topic... but i alomst get the feeling that you need to offend people before you can get them to think.

anyway, I'm not really sure what I think about this myself...

I think maybe in the early days he was using equal either funk/soul/R&B as a base with rock as a major component.

Using the analogy, rock would be pasta over which he would pour his sauce of whatever he chose for a particular song.

I'm not sure... maybe not rock.

maybe he had his own sound which he would flavour using various genres?

I guess I'm trying to get a sense of why, when you hear a Prince song.. whether it be him or something he wrote... that you know it's Prince?

These days, Prince would be a non-fat starter, with tofu, but topped by hot chocolate.

You'd take a bite, go UHMMMM (cuzza the chocolate) then feel unfulfilled all night and you really want the main course.

It's not about the taste, really, cuz I ain't a cook, but it's about there being layers we will never figure out. He's been on a roll, though, lately. Live, cd's, book, live cd.
