Prince and Elvis have got quite a few things in common when you consider it.
*They both seem to love living in their secluded little worlds (Graceland - Pailsey Park)
*They're both surrounded by a huge posse of sycophants/yes men.
*They're work is downgraded due to the amount of shit they released. If only we could consider they're best work rather than a huge collection, some of which is forgettable at best.
*They both love the idea of robbing the fans. Elvis has had a good press since he died. The Colonel was a greedy fat bastard, but Elvis was hardly Mr. Nice Guy either.
*They both put on a fine live show.
*They are both damm good.

I think maybe Michael Jackson is the Elvis of R&B/Pop.
Here is a guy whose looks are the most important thing to the media as his career seems to have hit rock bottom. Here also is a guy who used to be a true pioneer but who, in his later years, has turned to trying to copy whatever style is currently hip in a desperate attempt to recreate his Golden Age.
I'd say that was a closer similarity, that of the two Kings, rather than Price and the King.

The main thing they both have in common (apart from giving off the vibe of being the collest person in the world-Elvis just edges Prince here) is that a 'real' best of (i.e. based on music rather than sales) would be so, so, so, so much better than any individual album.

I NEVER SAID HE WOULD GO DOWN AS BETTER THAN ELVIS.I SAID THAT IF ANYBODY HAD ANY SENSE THEN HE WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS SUPERIOR TO ELVIS ETC,ETC.

Nope...he's torn away from the industry, and
been blackballed by the corporation.
He won't be remembered as anything but a great
songwriter of the 80's...
Now, people who KNOW music already know he's
better than most who have ever walked this earth.
Personally, i feel he's the BEST musician we've
ever seen.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

i hope not. at the beginning of his career, elvis was the vortex of cool, yet at the end of his career, he had become a sad pitiful shadow of his former glory, a bad joke, really. i would hate to see prince sink to the depths elvis did.

i doubt it'll happen. i hope what i have seen of prince this year, is the beginning of a transition from the "horny pony" he has been, in his 20's and 30's, to a more mature artist. very few rock artists have been able too pull off aging gracefully. i'd like to see prince pull it off.

No.

At this rate, you'll go down as "The Elvis of Prince.org".

Let me put it this way...

He's Prince..

You are not..

Why question how he is remembered instead of yourself?

I like his image more now than when he was wearing speedos and "flasher" trench coats...No (or very little) make-up..

Secluded? I guess 1 million of your "biggest fans" can enter your home and workspace...at anytime...for any reason. Are "Prince.Org" members allowed to surprise you in your home?

Most Major Entertainers and Entertainment Moguls have some sort of Private Estate.

*They're both surrounded by a huge posse of sycophants/yes men.

Yeah. Even though I get the feeling that this may be true, it's pure speculation at this point. I haven't heard of anyone who used to work at Paisley say this... He is "The boss" of his own company, afterall. I doubt you would be able to question your boss's every move (and keep your job for long)? As a consumer you may do so (and influence more change).

*They're work is downgraded due to the amount of shit they released. If only we could consider they're best work rather than a huge collection, some of which is forgettable at best.

Wow. I couldn't imagine Prince saying, "I know I'll only create 5 great songs out of the next 30 I record", before he actually records them! How would he know which song will be a hit for everyone?

I guess you're still listening to those Unreleased/Bootleg songs from the 1999, Dream Factory, Crystall Ball, Rave, and Batman recording sessions. Why do you feel he chose not to release them?

Are these demos "The sh@t" you and others don't want in surplus?

You guys covet these "hidden gems" that he cut from CDs annually.

Hahahahahaha!

*They both love the idea of robbing the fans.

Aren't 29 States in America suing all of the Major Record Companies and Distibuters for "unfair" CD "price gouging" and "price fixing"?

Elvis has had a good press since he died.

No ---?

The Colonel was a greedy fat bastard, but Elvis was hardly Mr. Nice Guy either.

Wow. I suppose you are, eh? Er..Well.. You may be..

What has Prince done to you? Did his security guards beat you off of the fences at Paisley?

*They both put on a fine live show.

clap-clap!

*They are both damm good.

Agreed.
