Italian newspaper praises Prince - Updated Hi, y'all, I know it's rather old but I just couldn't let it go.
Orger Aloisio posted an article out of an italian newspaper, 'Il messaggero' (The messenger) that talked about Prince's 50th birthday and his musicianship. There was not an english translation then, and someone (I guess syble) tried to do it through a translation website. But that (according to guessed-syble too) sucked. So, if U're interested, I translated it myself. And it's a lot better The topic (http://prince.org/msg/7/272513) is from 06.06.08. Here the translation: Happy birthday, Prince! But come back playin’ in Italy! Prince, the smartest, liveliest and most brilliant popstar alive, is gonna party: he turns 50 (was born June 7, 1958), but he’s not giving up his wild manners and not bending under the music industry, as well as maintaining his mixture of soul, funk, jazz and rock. But this has consequences. He’s in war with Companies since a lifetime, he struggles a lot for copyrights on the internet (he even sued youtube), and that’s the same for live performances. Given the lack of talented performers and fresh air in music, it’s rather curious to see how a man like him (who kicks ass live on stage) performs live once every full moon. ‘He asks too much money’ managers say. But he’s not getting cheap. Result: he plays live rather seldom (in the meantime, he wrote a book, which will be out next fall, entitled ’21 nights’, he played 21 concerts in London last year), particularly in Italy, where it is almost impossible to see him live (the last performance he had was two years ago, at a private party at Versace’s in Milan, while the agreements for a show at the Arena di Verona aren’t going to a good end). All we could hope is that for the next 50 years, things might change. For Prince. For music. For everybody who loves his music. By the way: the private party in Milan never took place, due to organization problems (see Dublin) [Edited 8/14/08 7:14am] | |
