HOW DOES IT FEEL??? I'm sure this will seem like such a fawning question to some, but think about it: when you've created a song as insanely beautiful as Beautiful Strange, a song that kicks more ass than an ass kicking contest, what does it feel like to play that song live???
I know it must feel great, but I want details: is he thinking, "I got 'em with this one... " Does he ever not feel like singing it & just walk through it? Is performing it just a task sometimes? Or does a groove like that just take over & transport him somewhere else like it does us? Or at least ME! Maybe this is a dumb thought. I choose this song b/c it's one that I find particularly gorgeous on record & absolutely mindblowing live. But I'm not music savvy, the CREATION of music is baffling to me, so I find it fascinating - the notion of what the music does to its creator, the process of sharing it repeatedly with others, the actual moment when it's coming out of you. That's some amazing shit, and I'm not even high... If that's not up your alley, try this: what do you think is Prince's favorite song to perform live and why?

Well, yes I often wonder just how Excitingly High he gets and just how much Energy he Expends when he Performs. Well,it's quite Great cause his Emotions can come out and I do liken it to Sex and Orgasms you Know. No wonder you feel Wet down there or Overcome because damn he is playing the Chords that way. I would say at one time Purple Rain must have been his Favorite for its Spiritual message. I think he probably likes Bambi,Joy In Repetition. Stuff that gets you Emotional. God Knows he can Break me down every time. Damn Gemini can break this Fish into Water... He's just purely a magical{Mecurical Enigma of a Man}.

Is there anything you like that you DON'T liken to sex? This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Cal, I'm with you on this one. Beautiful Strange has some type of hypnotic pyschodelic feel that just goes down to every nerve ending.
However, IMHO, I think that sometimes it is just work. Just like we might love our jobs, but there are those days when, that's what it is, just a job. I also believe that Prince feeds off the audience, so even if he's not up to par, the audience will put him in a different mood and then the magic begins. **************************************************

not that i'm hating on "rave in2 the joy" or anything... but i wonder how it feels to have "created a song as insanely beautiful as" "beautiful strange" and then waist it on an album like "rave in2"... it doesn't fit on that album in the least... should've been saved for a different cd... i almost think it might have fit on "chaos & disorder"... and would have been much preferable to songs like "right the wrong" ...
that said... it's gotta feel pretty damn good to create a song that kicks that much ass... but then again, he has created a lot of them and has been for a long time... so, these days it might not feel any different as writing any other kind of song... Mr. Ellis Dee-licious, the Official NPGigolo

That's when you get albums like most of what he released during the last decade. Punching the clock doesn't exactly lead to inspiring music. Feel the burn or you end up with things like New Power Soul and 75% of Emancipation. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Wow, that's really an interesting topic, Calhoun!
The bass on Beautiful Strange is just nasty and hypnotic at the same time. Absolutely great! And yes, I think that song like this "transport him somewhere else". You can see it in his face. That man's feeling pain when he kills the guitar on songs like that!

Most of the time, you're trying to make sure you did everything just right: Lyrics, pitch, eye contact, timing, guitar solo, guitar settings, wrong notes, etc. I'm often in the dark. I get kidded about things of mine I thought went well, and applauded for things I stank at. When it's all over, though, RELIEF.

It must feel damn good.
Not that I've ever heard "Beautiful Strange". Is it really so good that I should buy the extra Rave CD? What's the rest of it like, dodgy dance remixes of mediocre Rave filler-pap?

Cool thread, no way near stupid at all
I pre4me with my band(my brotha and couple of my homies) a lot in gigs in Harlem and even in my friends weddings/events. But mainly I pre4me in Jazz Cafes. I composed a Jazzy mellow piece called "Choosy midnight" and pre4med it in a Jazz Cafe in Philly on my acoustic piano with my band and LOL man, I didn't expect that the ppl in the Cafe will get emotional when they hear it, they gave me props and love enought 4 the whole world. I was waiting 2 pre4me my # and It came like that "finger snaps" like I neva expected. Good thang about pre4ming "Choosy Midnight" is, it was pre4med 4 the time after I composed, thats when I was going through an intense moment of my life and thankfuly got throught it all. So, thats way I think ppl loved it. Add 2 that "When you say something from the heart, it goes straight to the hearts" So, 2 answer yo Q "Self Satisfaction" thats what I feel but if the reaction wasn't what I wanted then at least I played something that was stuck inside my chest 4 a long time. Either way, I feel good and satisfied. BTW I don't sing, I play Once again cool thread, I really enjoyed it [This message was edited Thu Nov 14 14:28:00 PST 2002 by Harlepolis]

when will we be paid, when I lay my hands on u and beautiful strange all have the same kind of vibe to me. It's like they were all recorded in the same window of time. Like he was in the same mood each time.

Go to the retail section of the NPGMC. You can buy it without being a member. The booklet has some nice photos, too. The link: http://www.npgmusicclub.c...code=Music
