That whole album would lead one to believe that Mayte really fucked Prince over and ruined their marriage. Kind of a shitty thing for Prince to do.

The song is emotionally touching. To love someone but not trust them has to be tortureous (sp) So much soul comes through in that song.

Beautiful and touching song. I love when P get's introspective. He's shied away from life's dark, emotionally gripping and personal haunting moments on recent albums. I dig his piano ballads and I need to get a hold of One Nite Alone. So much great material, so little outlets!

The guitar (Ani Difranco) adds the appropriate color to an otherwise solo acoustic sound with a lot of space. This song is truly affecting live.

I also wondered whether his lover in the song was having an affair with another woman (she was wearing someone else's dress and perfume).

i hate to pry, but the only way i could see them spliting over the baby is if mayte had some defect information she kept from prince.???

That wouldn't surprise me one bit. However defect or chance, she did say in an interview that the death of a child either brings a couple closer or drive them apart and in her and Prince case it was the latter. That's sad enuf!
