Pop Life?

Near the end the song collapses on itself in a strange passage of bumps and crashes, underlain with boos and catcalls followed by cheers. This was taped during Prince's 1981 disastrous opening slot for the Rolling Stones. What you hear in the sample is the crowd booing him off the stage. Then the crowd cheers as Prince leaves.

Is this right? I always wondered why there was that random hitch in the song.

Urban legend. It's from a sample library record. IIRC, the same one as the baby gurgle on the 1999 LP etc.

All these samples were free, so do not be surprised if you watch a street scene in 70's movie and then all of a sudden you hear those familiar car horns and you expect Prince to shout TAXI! TAXI!

No it's not right. As NouveauDance said, it's lifted from a sound effects disc.
The track is called 'Boxing Match' if I remember correctly.

Mmmm. A lot like the female scream on Pussy Control, I've heard that on countless TV shows too.

Interesting...I have always loved the extra sound effects that are in quite a few things...
I Love the walks that are in a few songs...and the airplanes taking off are cool too.
The N.A.S.A recording at the beginning of Live 4 Love...I Love that too. cool
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
