I did it because Jimi is one of the only people that I could think of to maybe eqaul out the biasness on this site. I mean come on, comparing Jesse to Prince is like putting Ali when he was young and great in the ring with Sugar Ray Leonard. You can't even put Jesse in the same sentence as Prince. Plus I thought this would be fun. WRONG! There is no "equaling out" the biasness in this forum

Prefer Steve Vai to both Ok now, unchartered territory here. Joe Satriani taught Steve Vai how to play guitar. Joe Satriani's NO. 1 favorite giutar player is Jimi Hendrix and every time when he's thinking about "what would Jimi do right here?" Joe even has the same rig as Jimi. Do the math.

It seems like every time giutar poll that comes up in magazines. Jimi is either first or second...and this is how many years after his death? He's the man. Anyone that doesn't want to know about Jimi Hendrix is not listen to Prince correctly. Especially earlier Prince. LoxySexy backwards alomst everything you heard by Prince was the essence of Jimi. I said almost, not everything. Almost everything. Don't get me wrong, I follow them both and I've heard Prince make sounds (technology) that Jimi didn't make. Prince said in an interview once that people only compared the two of them together because they were black. Another time wayyyyy back when, Prince and Jesse Johnson were talking and Jesse ask Prince if Jimi influenced him and Prince said no and Jesse said "You're lying!" Prince knows who his daddy is on the giutar even though he's complete and total genious! As far as music goes, Jimi can't touch Prince. Now where near him. Light years away.

There is no "equaling out" the biasness in this forum I think you might be right, lol, but that's only because they like Prince in general and only really know Jimi as a guiatar player. So far though, we have more Jimi than Prince in votes. This will be the last comparison thread I'll ever make cause it's only one where another artist (Jimi) stands half a chance. Everyone else will be looked at as dog meat. Like someone made a thread where they put Prince VS. Billy Idol. Not knocking that person, but put heavywieghts vs. heavywieght and featherwieghts vs featherwieghts if you're going to make a VS thread. The comparison thread with MJ/Madonna/Prince-now their all heavywieghts and I love them all.

It doesnt matter who it is, mj, hendrix, idol, hell I'd be willing to bet ppl in here would say he's more influential than the beatles. Well now you've learned you're lesson, comparison threads in PM:M are a no no

I so agree. For me (only as far as guitar playing goes) Jimi comes first. They are just different. "Sign of the times, will mess with your mind. Hurry before it's too late." Prince "Sign of the times, will mess with your mind. Hurry before it's too late." Prince

Purple123 said: Who is the better giutar player? Jimi Hendrix or Prince. They're both funky, both can play blues and rock and both are visionaries in their playing. It's a HARD call. I know we're all HUGE Prince fans here including myself but if I picked I would have to say Jimi on this. Every giutar lick or solo Prince ever performed (that I've heard, and I've heard alot, Live and recorded, like we all have,) Jimi Hendrix has one to match it or is better. I like Prince better as an artist, no doubt about that, but I'm not bias about my decision. Just because I like Prince better doesn't mean that he's the better guitar player. Jimi Hendrix singlehandedly redefined guitar playing as we know it today.
bein that Jimi was and still is in a league of his own like Prince it's awfully hard 2 say who was betta than who, especially when Jimi was one of his idols... [Edited 8/8/08 0:18am]

Joe Satriani's NO. 1 favorite giutar player is Jimi Hendrix and every time when he's thinking about "what would Jimi do right here?" Joe even has the same rig as Jimi. Do the math. Joe was Steve's guitar teacher. Keep in mind that Joe is only a few years older than Vai and at that point he hadn't fully developed as a player. These cat's formed a relationship that they mutually benefited from. I'm sure at some point there was more of exchange of idea's taking place. So it's not like Joe taught him everything he knows. The rigs are similar only in the sense that Satriani uses a few effects jacked into the front end of a tube amp (He's not even using Marshalls live anymore) just like many other guitarist. Though Joe has cited Hendrix as a primary influence many times, I think he applies it more in his mindset or approach than what he atually plays. As far as the the who's better issue, no comment. Sorry. For me it's a topic not worth revisiting.

I will not judge who is better.
I prefer Jimi on the guitar... He talks using his guitar like it's a puppet, and I prefer Prince's music. When someone takes the time to master something with their body then MAN!!! it shows. Prince spreads himself thin when it comes to instruments which means (in my opinion) he doesn't 'specialize' in the guitar. I saw Prince cry
and I asked God why The answer He gave caused me 2 b saved Now I cannot tell a lie

To start more shit. Or hoping for someone to bash Hendrix and then hope someone will jump in by defending Hendrix and then like 12 or 13 more people will bash Hendrix some more and on and on. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

As a guitar player player, Jimi Hendrix.
As a multi instrumentalist, Prince hands down Having said that, as much as I love Hendrix, There other guitar players I love a lot more than him. Sorry but he is far from being the only one up there.
