i meet people...somehow music comes up. sometimes i mention i like P. sometimes not. when they mention him i be like

and then Im like

word? He's one of my favorites. I got awhole buncha his stuff. I got bootleg songs, concerts, even songs he doesn't even know people have....

then they look at me like

im thinkin, didn't u just say you looooove prince? not love, but looooove?

then when i express how much im into him all i get is



i thought that would lead to " really? cool? what do you have?"
or" damn i would like to hear some of those!"

i even got too caught up and gave away a concert tape cuz i thought they were into him like i was....well i did that twice...they never watched it...


im like damn, i guess i cant find nobody as into him as i am in my area,lol


next time, imma say purple rain is my favorite song, if they get mad, then maybe i can be honest,lol

Hmmm...I don't really mention Prince. Some people just know. Maybe it's cause I usually have my PR button pinned right next to my cleavage...I dunno. Same thing happens when I put my Thriller pin on too. LOL.

But I'm a non-enthusiast's worst flippin g nightmare. They try to down talk Prince and I drop all kinds of facts about him on them and they shrivel up like the Witch in the Wizard of Oz, y'all. LOL.

And normally I know a real fan cause they'll start talking about some obscure song like "In This Bed I Scream" etc, if they mention PR right off the bat, I'm kinda leery of them.

I guess a lot of folks have a vague idea that Prince used to be a widespread popular artist, and they know songs like "Purple Rain" and "Kiss". I have a friend like that, he knows a few of the major hits and respects Prince for that. But he, and people in general, don't have a deeper appreciation for Prince's music.

Sometimes it feels like being a deserted island to be a Prince fan. On the one hand it's pretty cool to be off mainstream these days, on the other, it would really warm my heart if Prince was more appreciated.

It's kinda annoying to meet someone who says they like Prince but all they know is the Purple Rain stuff but at least they like something of his. To me, if you like Prince you are in good standing with me. If not, then you've automatically lost points with me. It's that simple.

I recently had a conversation with someone about music. It turns out he is a Queen fan, and I mentioned I'm a big fan of Prince's music. He did the whole "name change/washout" thing and we talked for a bit more.

I mentioned that Prince wrote Manic Monday and Nothing Compares 2 U and he was visibly upset and said something like "but... I like those songs".

At least most of you guys have a good chance of meeting someone who's really into the man and his art as much as you are.

Over here in not-so-sunny Glasgow, I've next to no chance of that.

However, I did take a sort of perverse pleasure in the fact that when he announced the 21 nights, anyone who knew me pretty well instantly thought of me. They associate Prince with my obsession.

That's about as good as it's going to get.....
