1st of all..Nobody cared about the song AT ALL when she released her version..
Even the original artists that sung it were washed up and forgotten !
Prince NEVER was performing the song himself..
Then after she made it a MEGA international hit..he took it back and started playing it live..personally I think it was to show the current generation at that time (that was rapidly not digging Prince anymore) that he was the man behind the song...!!!

She may have made the song her own, but I disliked her interpretation of it. It has nothing to do with P writing the song to begin with as I had not heard the original when I heard Sinead's version. When I finally heard P's live version with Rosie Gaines I liked it. I have not heard The Family's version so I may or may not like that.

Sinead is coo coo for Cocoa Puffs. I believe half of the story. I do believe Prince wanted to make her a protege and told her not to swear. And I believe she told him to fuck off I don't believe he got "physically" aggressive with her. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying I don't believe it happened. Sinead has a habit of victimizing herself. She truly has had a hard life so it's easy to understand why she is that way.

I lived in MPLS at the time and I remember John Bream or someone writing about this incident when it happened. There is no reason not to believe her. Prince has an ego the size of Antartica, and Sinead is a shit-kicking, lippy woman who would probably never be docile enough to wear make-up and lingerie in a Prince group.

Anyway, I can't believe you people. Sinead has an incredibly beautiful voice. She's a great artist. Her version of Nothing Compares 2 U kicks ass all over Prince's version. Good for her for standing up to him!

Not True! Her first album was quite popular! When I was a kid and used to goto First Ave every Sunday they would always play the single from The Lion and the Cobra. Every Week!... Infact, now that I'm thinking about it, I was at First Avenue the first time they played Nothing Compares 2 U on the Big video screens there. Everybody sorta stopped what they were doing and watched it. At the end of the video Sinead cries.. I think people applauded when it was over. No-one understood it was a Prince song, i don't think. Kind of a cool moment.
