Prince still owes me a fi' dolla refund for that mess. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think the critics were too harsh to UTCM.The movie has several redeeming qualities and some truly funny scenes.

The Trailer amuses me.
"Hot Stellas....." Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

The movie is painful. It probably doesn't help that much of the music is under par. Here are a few things that baffled me: 1. Prince's entire dialogue could probably fit onto one A4 page. 2. Ingrid Chavez's character can't make up her mind whether or not she's an angel or an easy lay. 3. Every Time song in the film sucks and whilst Morris's humour worked well in Purple Rain, it just doesn't translate on Graffiti Bridge. 4. What was the point in Tevin Campbell's performance? Did he even fit into the "story" anywhere? [Edited 8/2/08 11:40am] It still kills me that some people actually try to defend this movie. Beyond what you've already pointed out (couldn't agree with you more) i'd like to add.... 5. an absolutely RIDICULOUS looking set. I mean i've seen high school plays with better set design than GB. 6. not only did P screw the Time by not using the MUCH funkier/better songs from Pandemonium, writing them as gangsters? I mean, would ANYONE be scared of Morris and Jerome? Or MONTE?? Good lord. 7. TC ELLIS. "i told you that you should've let me rap....." I could do this all day. WORST movie in HISTORY. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts
y'all gone keep messin' around wit me and turn me back to the old me......

TO EACH HIS OWN!!!
I didn't like Graffiti Bridge when I first saw it, but like Showgirls and Xanadu, it works for today. Some films like some music just don't fit the time in which they are released. To me, Graffiti Bridge is a bit slapstick, a bit musical and a bit lighthearted romance. I can laugh at it, enjoy the music and my girl Jill Jones looked hot! damn why didn't she and Prince work out! Ya'll know ur gonna watch it when nobody's looking. And it beats Staying Alive any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Warner Bros. made him do it! Prince wanted 2 make "Graffiti Bridge" a 1950s-style musical, not a wannabe "Purple Rain" sequel. Stuck like glue!

I think we should just tell it like it is. Prince is a musical genius, but a not so great actor... if he isn't playing a character based on himself, he can not stand in another role, he is no Jonny Depp. He is an even worse director. There is not much way around this. These are the reasons that GB and UTCM are not very good movies. I am not going to rave about these movies just because Prince is attached. Good WORK is worthy of praise. We are all so full of here

[Edited 8/2/08 11:40am] suffice it 2 say that if ur on a limited budget, u can only do so much but what bothers me is that since it was nearly shot at paisley park, the movie doesn't have "life" and it feels constrained. I would say that the best way 2 "understand" the movie is 2 fully understand what Lovesexy was all about. 1) i will agree with u about prince's dialouge..damn brother ..speak up and that pouty lip thing when the time comes and trashes glam slam is ..is ..DAMN!! 3) your kidding right about the time's material and morris' humor? Release it is funky as hell!!! and the quotes he says 2 robin power is hysterical "take a week off and kiss it all!!" and of course the best line 2 utter 2 someone u owe money 2 "i told u, i'll give u ur money when i got it 2 give ya!!" 4) i really think there was a lot that was left on the cutting floor but 4 all this, if u really truly feel this movie is bad, u should have seen the original script of it man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

i also think he wanted to get a film business going at paisley park or prn. i was going thru some old clippings from the batman era that i found in a folder and you can tell that P was probably starting to get some mojo back after Lovesexy failed here in the US. there was so much talk about Batman being so huge and that Paisley Park had 4 movie projects including Graffiti Bridge and a movie based on the life of Robert Johnson. Yeah,I think the sucess of his 'Batman' album convinced Prince that movie-making was the way to go.In 1989,he and his then-manager Albert Magnoli announced *FOUR* movie projects that they would start working on,as part of their newly formed film company (Paisley Park Films). The movies were... ***"Graffiti Bridge"---sequel to Purple Rain ***"The Dawn"---described as a "Street oriented sequel to Graffiti Bridge ***"The Dark Side Of The Moon"---a documentary on Prince ***"The Robert Johnson Story"---a biopic in which Prince portrays the legendary blues artist. Obviously, the failure of 'Graffit Bridge' prevented the other three movies from being made.Am I the only one who thinks that 'The Robert Johnson Story' might have been interesting? not at all, also at that time of announcement, robert johnson's story was being very much sought over i was more interested in the dawn project since it was always in his tag lines man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
