Anyone only listen to Prince in spurts?

For some reason I will go months without listening to any P tracks. But when I do start listening to him again it's all I listen to for afew weeks. At 11 years old I exclusivly listened to Prince up until I was about 18 or 19. When Diamonds and Pearls came out I listened to that over and over again for 2 or 3 weeks and then stopped cold turkey. That has been my pattern ever since. I just can't mix Prince with other music I guess. Anyone else relate?

I guess some of us know Prince's music by heart....and that slows daily listening down to once a week or so...

I have always been a radio surfer as well, although it is nice to come back to a musician you call home... cool

I listen to at least one of his compositions daily. It may not be his vocals, but I listen to his work daily.

I listen to him a lot at one time and then less and then come back to him. Depends on what happens in my life.

I'm hoping than I'm coming out of my first extended spurt... I'm not sure what triggered this, but it has been going on for over two months.. nothing but prince.

It feels really unhealthy, so its good to know that I'm not alone in the exclusive thing...

I can't imagine going completely cold turkey. Was this a consious choice? was it difficult?

Going cold turkey is something I think I do out of a necessity to feel one with the rest of the world. Running into a real Prince fan is a rare thing for me. I feel like an oddball, freakish, one-eyed alien when I go weeks only listening to Prince. On the other hand I do the reverse when I want to get away from the rest of the world.

I guess I do, but then I'm like that with other artists/bands I listen to. However, as someone said in a previous reply to this thread, it's always nice to return to Prince's music, 'cos it feels so familiar...like coming home. yes

I feel the same way. When someone asks me about my taste in music I don't even want to respond because I've only been listening to P for an extended burst...it's embarassing and hard to explain!

obsessed

Many moons ago I listened to nothing but Prince and long-standing
artists from the 60's and 70's...then I joined NPGMC and the Porg
and was introduced to many other artists by other members.

Now I have so many choices to listen to that somedays it's like I don't
know where to start lol

But Prince will still always be my number 1 cool

i usually listen to the occasional song that pops up on cdr's i have in my
car with all sort of artists on them.

but regarding really listening and 'getting into' prince, i usually do it
one album at a time that i rediscover after not having listened to it for
a while.

right now i'm very much into eric leed's "times squared" and a while ago
it was ingrid chavez' "may 19 1992".

and i can tell by the way i'm leaning toward it that i'll probably dust
off "1999" in a few days and listen to that non stop for a while.

after having had a "prince" playlist featuring every released and also an
awful lot of unreleased songs on shuffle for over a year, i hunger for
prince album experiences. not just 1 song but an entire album in sequence.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

And that's what we are, Prince fans, uh? Nobody else is like us. I listen to his music since fall 1992 and there's been a period, which is 1994-96, where his work couldn't reach my country (I live in Italy) and I started listening to his music in spurts. But then the fever came back and now, I eat and drink at least one album per day, and if not an album, let's say two dozens songs throughout his career, both official and unofficial.

Lately, it doesn't really matter to me if I pick a released song or not, as long as it's Prince (I'm enjoyin' the Lovesexy Tour rehearsals right now).

Concerning other artists, every two weeks of Prince-listening-session, I put on some cd's by Sheryl Crow or Alanis Morrisette. More likely Wendy & Lisa ('Fruit at the bottom').

wow, that is my exact situation

It is part of my personality to become overly enthusiastic about stuff... writers, directors, activities... so it isn't unusual for me to emerse myself in something like this... but this is the first time that i have felt awkward or weird about it. Even peole who really like Prince think I'm being odd by reading a biography.

So, while it is completely in line with my character to do something like listen to nothing but Prince for 2months, I feel like a weirdo for it. i think it is the sex element that makes people uncomfortable, and myself feel a little pervy

Yeah I do, but it’s been a spurt of about one and a bit year now. A long spurt shall we say lol.

As a newbie I guess I’m still in that honeymoon stage. I’m waiting for the seven year itch to strike.

I don’t listen to him every day though and sometimes I have my dirty weekends away lol.
You lose yourself, you reappear. You suddenly find you got nothing to fear. Alone you stand with nobody near. When a trembling distant voice, unclear, startles your sleeping ears to hear, that somebody thinks they really found you.
