'head' appreciation (live) Is it terribly immature and depraved of me to love Prince when he is being his most filthy?
I love everything before purple rain, from the moaning at the end of 'do me baby' to 'I sincerly want to f...the taste out of your mouth'. And then there was 'head', and while I love watching these extended live grooves, a very juvenile part of me simply loves how dirty he gets The '86 birthday show in detroit was one thing, but now I have seen clips from the 1980 and 1981 with him doing the whole guitar masturbation schtick and finger licking bit... I know it is just schtick, but it gets me, and I can just watch this stuff over and over i'm pretty sure the music is good too, although I have trouble being objective | |

I've seen 4 different "Head" performances. I saw the birthday one first on Youtube before it got yanked and great googly moogly. I'm surprosed the stuff the man did didn't get him tossed in jail.
It was so fresh and funky and hardcore. And I screamed like a fool getting my ass kicked when I saw the 1981 version with him masturbating the guitar. I mean it was just a moment where time kinda slowed down, I couldn't hear anything but the guitar playing and my heartbeat. I sat there, eyes locked on the man in green and black, a little slack jawed and glass eyed...and then when it was over, I prompltly went to Wal-mart and found the Dirty Mind album. Incredible. I first saw Head on YT too. It was last year and I had just become a fan I was catching up with all the performances I missed over the years. When I saw this I could'nt believe my eyes, needless to say I just played it to death, the mikestand/electricman/shut up I don't like to talk.....He's too much, This is one of my all time fave performances, I have my own copy now, but need to buy another because it's wearing out fast, I have to go now, feel the need to watch it again!!! | |

I saw the mike stand first too, and thought it was pretty riske... but lets get back to the earlier performances and the guitar masturbation.... how on earth did he get away with this?!!!!
People go on about Darling Nikki and the stage humping as though that was the height of his sex business. I think non-prince fans are under the impression that he got worse throughout hiw career... but they don't understand where he began. I've read prince talking about DN, and how that wouldn't be considered pushing the envelope anymore... but for him back then it was so tame AND the guitar masturbation would still be controversial today...
