I have never weighed in on one of these but here's my 2 cents; they are two different guitar players, period. It's about what you like and I do like both. That said,as a musician if I were starting a band I would take Jesse. He's a gun slinger like me. I feel like you should leave no prisoners and sometimes Prince can sound like he is holding back as to where Jesse can sound like he's pouring it all out. Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

I have to state mine as well, BOTH are very talented musicians and both have their weaknesses and strong points(just like all musicians do).

[Edited 7/27/08 22:43pm] And what did I say earlier? "As long as you keep doing whatever it is that you do, you'll be right as rain, my child!". And don't trip on the phrase "my child". No slight towards you personally, you see. I just say that because I dig the way it sounds.... SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This topic can only go one way...but to answer your question, even though Jesse is in my top ten, Prince is the MAN. He's always underatted as a guitarist...but he is goooood. You mean this one? LOL! I couldn't have said it better. This topic seems to be omnipresent and just won't die a natural death. I said my piece on at least a half dozen or so similar threads. Anyways....about Jimi Hazel. He's a monster player with a lot of soul, even the really heavy stuff. I don't get in to whole who's better nonsense. I will say Jimi's one of my personal favorites. 21st CenturySouthBronxRockStar his solo cd is great and definitely worth checking out.

XANADUBLUE said: This thread has probably been brought up before on the org...nevertheless, I must say I enjoy Prince's guitar work...and he has improved and reached new heights on his guitar playing the last 10 years. I still would have to say Jesse Johnson is a better guitar player than Prince and it was proved again on the Jay Leno show the other night when the time performed skillet. Jesse's cords are so prominent when he is playing were as Prince's playing is mostly solo's and engulfed with so much effects applied to it that sometimes it sounds smeared. I saw Jesse in '88 @ the Fillmore in San Francisco and his playing was the closet thing to Hendrix I have ever heard only it was Jesse's identity on guitar. The local radio stations were flooded with calls after his show to demonstrate what I am saying here. On the other hand no one can touch Prince as a multi-instrumentalist, he is absolutely superb and that's where his imagination comes in to play with his out of the world arrangements in his songs. I have a unreleased version of 'Head that is unbelieavable...but guitar goes to Jesse....what do you orgers think?
[Edited 7/26/08 12:37pm] Ya know that Prince is going win 95% of all comparison threads on this sight.
