Also, no one has mentioned that in that bombastic conclusion 2 the song "Planet Earth", from the 5:00 until the end, there is a scream or 2 in there that sounds IDENTICAL 2 the "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)" screams. He either recreated them perfectly or sampled them. [Edited 7/7/08 6:01am] Yeah, I noticed that too. Me, not saying Prince can't holler anymore, but I do think he sampled the scream from "Something In the Water". thats really interesting to me. i was checking and i found the screaming on something in the water(does not compute) at about 2:00 and was comparing to planet earth which starts at 5 from what was said by another. i'm aquiring a new found respect for the song planet earth.

The screams at the end of endorphinmachine ...
When my daughter was about 3 years old, I would play that song in the car as we drove somewhere, and she would always mime the screaming at the end lol ...she'd have her mouth WIDE open like she was screaming, and I'd just crack up lol ...

Man, I've written several threads about Prince screaming on this and damn near the whole 1999 album. That's his scream tour de force album right there. Prince is straight up possessed during the recording of this album and he couldn't play that shit off either. Some of the best screams in pop history are all found on the 1999 album. And the cold part about it is that as lunatic sounding as he was, at the same time his hollering was all gospel based. Anybody that has listened to true old time gospel knows of what I speak. Nobody could out sing or out holler or out scream o.g. gospel singers. And that's where Prince got all of that from. That's what was so mind blowing about Prince; Nobody in pop music in the early 80's was doing what Prince was doing. The 1999 album is loaded with gospel overtones. Musically too. International Lover, Free, How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore, (b-side) Delirious, are all gospel flavored tracks. And his vocal phrasing on those tracks are all rooted in gospel styled singing. Even the "Party!" part at the end of 1999 was church like. I know he hollered a lot on the Purple Rain album i.e. The Beautiful Ones, God, When Doves Cry. But to me, it didn't have the same conviction as his screams on the 1999 album. Like I said, the 1999 album is his scream tour de force. He mixed old time gospel with new wave funk rock all combined with a madness lunacy. I remember your Z cult thread about the song Dude, I get a rush just reading your stuff You & Supa should def found your own blogs,,,,EVERY Z cult thread you made should be copied and paste in your OWN blog, no sense of letting all that go to waste.

But I disagree with you strongly BG when it comes to PR "screaming" convictions,,,,,esp on The Beautiful Ones.
The shit(esp the extended version) sounded like it came RIGHT from his crouch

The Planet Earth screams are shorter and MUCH weaker - they are just backed by a mean guitar which makes them sound louder and stronger. Planet Earth (cd) actually made me think P was losing his ability to scream but then I heard his Creep cover and all was ok again with the world.

The extended scream/yelp on Baby You're A Trip is another Prince moment of pure beauty - wish there was a better quality version floating around than the one on The Works. Love that scream.

I thought this would be a good place to say how beautiful, the song, "In this bed I scream," is. And beautiful...is just a word...that represents...all that could be said from the first note, to the last...of every tender song, Prince writes. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

In 84, on the 45 single of Purple Rain, the b-side is God (vocal). Then the 12' was released with the album version of Purple Rain and on the b-side was "Love Theme From "God" and "God" (vocal).
