Should Prince release a 25 year anniversary edition of Purple Rain?

With unreleased tracks, like Michael Jackson did with Thriller?

I believe so. Although I don't know what is required to do so...I have commented before, that if Prince did do that...The package should include two t-shirts. An X-L and a medium. And the t-shirts could be a lot nicer than the t-s that were printed in 84'

no. if anything he just needs to re-release his back catalogue in full.

i have no need for a purple rain remaster if the other albums are left
to their subpar soundquality in this day and age.

for someone as protective and obsessive about their music as prince,
it is simply beyong comprehension that he hasn't found a way yet to
release remasters of his albums in the best possible quality.

what good is building on your legacy with new songs when you leave
the foundation of what you are and what made you left to gather dust?

with his recent uprise in the public eye there has not been a better
time for remasters since 15 years. if he doesn't start now i don't
think we'll ever get them.

i'm not even entertaining the absurd notion of extra tracks or even
bsides and extended versions anymore. right now remasters of those
albums in exactly the same format would do just fine.

so no, not a purple rain remaster but remasters of all albums up to
purple rain and a year later the rest, up to lovesexy.

Of course! IMO, "Purple Rain" should be re-released in its full original rumoured soundtrack form, with the Apollonia 6, Time & Dez songs included, as well as the songs in the movie not included on the "Purple Rain" album ("God," basically). All unedited!

But the anniversary DVD of "Purple Rain" should have at LEAST included some deleted scenes, so we can all stop dreaming. It has to be said - Prince is extremely fan-UNfriendly when it comes to giving us those cherished 80's vault classics in pristine form.

will never happen - he hates half of his back catalogue. purple rain contains darling nikki - so go figure

Unless we get a 25th anniversary religious extravaganza entitled 'Jehova Rain'

I thought you meant a 25th anniversary PR movie, not the album.

I'd rather the movie with the bomus scenes included. You know someone one has the reel in a dusty shed somewhere!

I wouldn't want another PR. Someone referenced Thriller. I have three! (The original CD, the remaster cd, and 25th anniversary one. I know, I know it's excessive) I'd much rather the movie maybe with a bonus disc with the deleted scenes or a full PR concert or something.

All I got with Thriller was 4 music videos. (and the hot remixes, but still!)

They should make a sequel, "RETURN TO PURPLE RAIN", and maybe they could make it a made-for-tv movie just to keep the costs down. they could play it on the spike channel or on lifetime or maybe both at the same time. anyway, it could be 25 years after the purple rain movie and prince and apples could be a happy married couple and larry could be francis l's cousin "lawrence l." and prince and apples would have two kids, one of which would be played by that youtube "chocolate rain" guy, and they could have a daughter named manuelayte and the kids get kidnapped by the time, who are going to brainwash kid jr. and manuelayte into becoming a country and western duo just to spite prince. so eventually morris hypnotizes prince's kids into wanting to become a country duo and they have a big debut performance scheduled at first avenue, and prince realizes he has to contact the revolution and dig his lace capes out of mothballs in order to do a battle of the bands with his own children. because she is a supportive mother, apples gets back into her leather teddy and feather earrings, but only after a totally gratuitous nude scene where she flashes prince her boobehs and says "remember lake minnetonka?" and prince goes "haw haw haw, those were the days mommie" and then they suit up and meet the revolution downtown and face off against prince's brainwashed country kids, and after some blistering funk rock the kids are converted back to the fray and the entire cast joins in for a rollicking country-funk rendition of "right the wrong", featuring dez dickerson and the modernaires, jill jones and what the hell, doug e. fresh.

that's what they should do right there.
