Harvard on Prince

Some recent reports/analyses on the IPRs issues. They delve deep - you are warned.

I understand those laws, and why they should exist....A musician, is more than the music coming through his spirit...A musician is distributing a product that is enhanced or controlled with technology....A recording from a standard device, is not going to produce an audible goal that the musician is trying to release. That is why, a studio exists.

The same thing goes with a photograph....When a Professional's goal, is to do a magazine cover...It is in a controlled atmosphere, usually...I am not saying that an average point of view cannot capture a decent photograph...I am saying that the image, is usually, studied for defects.

I don't believe that, "Cosmopolitan," or any other magazine, even those that photograph products for the consumer....would prefer, that the average citizen...run around like paparazzi...assuming they are Ansel Adams. They are not...and their work is often disrespectful to the model, or the viewers.

I am happy to see that Prince is trying to correct some of this nonsense.

Yes I know. To be honest, I managed to follow all the related discussions here on the Org, but this is going a little too deep in the legal ramifications for me, it evades me a little. But I thought if there are some legal experts or copyright geeks around here, they might be interested.

From what I gathered this seems to be their conclusion too.

It looks to me like one of the most complex cases in copyright history!
