Back to Black is better than anything Prince has released in twenty years

Probably been said here before, but - my god, what an album! Do you think Prince regrets not putting out albums with this kind of depth? Actually I don't think he ever could have...

It's better to burn out than to fade away... and anything is better than the death of a thousand cuts that purple boy puts his fans through...

Yes, it is very smart to kill yourself with drugs WTF. In addition, if P had done a record like Amy’s he would be labeled as being “divertive” a term that has been used by fans who can’t stand anything RnB oriented by Prince but, if a little British woman does the same kind of music it is so much better. (LOL)

Just stating how ridiculous it all is and I actually think Amy is or was a great artist but she has got to put the work it before you start putting her above P.

What you are smoking must be pretty powerful.

The crackhead is talented, but I would not go that far.

I think its odd to compare a 20-something year old's 2nd CD to a 50 year olds 5483692346th CD...

narcotizedmind must be smoking the same shit as Amy to be talking that bullshit. Some people here are a fucking mess. rolleyes

Oh, Back to Black is a great CD but Amy wishes she could pull a "Gold Experience" and a Lovesexy and a "Rainbow Children." Maybe she will but she needs to but the crack away first.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I havent been one to lap up EVERYTHING Prince has done for a few years now...SOME of Back To Black is better than SOME of the stuff Prince has released in recent years...and those trax are teh one sthat made it as singles and,of course, Love is a Losing Game - the rest of that album is just amateur turd buried amongst some modrn day classics....I love Amy Winehouse for what she does best when she does it....but some of that stuff is just "look at me".

I'm sure her Album is good...although I haven't heard it, however, there is no way anyone could make a Prince fan believe that statement..If you are here to support Amy...then you shouldn't hurt Prince along side of it. cool

Yes Back to Black is better than anything post 87 Prince, its a great album.

The girl is so young its such a shame it seems like shes throwing her life away.
Hope she gets it together, I would love to hear a lot more from her, hope she doesnt become a one hit wonder, or ends up dead.

I don't think this is a fair comparison. Amy was 23 years old when this album came out.

Do we really wanna compare the kind of music Amy was making at that age to the kind of music Prince was making at that age???

Let's hear Amy's stuff when she's been around for 10, 20 years!!!
JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

WTF? Seriously, you think this pre-fab crackwhore album, is better than anything P has done since 1988? I suppose you like Christina Aguilera and other disposable pop singers right?

Seriosuly, you've gotta be trolling. Some bubblegum pop record better than LoveSexy?

Riiight. And Britney Spears is better than Jimi Hendrix
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

she'll be blessed to have the overall output, talent and ability to survive the next 30 years and that's just musically. we'll be blessed if she can come back from the horrible addiction that grips her. she's got a lot to offer and i'm damn sure praying she can, as a human being. Prince is blessed that he can fade out over the last 20 years, aint that what we are all doing anyway?, ultimately dont we all "fade out"?. I'm happy that he's fading out with a smile on his face and his integrity intact unlike a lot of his peers. There are a lot of 40 and 50 somethings doing stupid shit like reality shows with half naked children ( Brett Micheals, Flava Flav) that "used" to be respected musicians. As a dedicated Prince Man i take pride in how he's positioned himself and aged gracefully. Do i wish for one last kick ass album, sure but if it dont come i wont penalize him and i certainly wont compare him to children in the early stages of shooting their own artistic wads, it's unfair. Remember, Princes artistic peak, in depth and length (81-88) is waaay longer than most that have juggled the critical/commercial thrones. Ask yourself this, if Prince came back today at 23 is there anyone on the landscape who's ass he wouldnt totally kick? Would Amy even have a chance against a 23 year old prince-you have collections, go back and check out a Controversy era concert and get back at me.

"Depth"? In like singing:"They tried to make me go to rehab and I said: no, no, no"?

yeah man that's sooooo DEEEEEP. Maybe even as deep as the crack pipe she was smoking when she wrote it.

Hot! Damn!

Some of you get waaaaay too defensive over this. And when they do, they bring things up that don't refer to the original post.

We're not comparing any specific albums.
We're not talking talent.
We're not talking endurance.
We're not talking instruments.
We're not talking production.
We're not talking druguse.
We're not talking age.

Okay?

Depth. Relevance to the actual world. Insight.

Now try again!

I really cant appreciate threads like this in any way. Back to Black is a great record - and not the throwaway pop record some on here are suggesting - but Prince at the age of 23 was imense. Why compare the two. Different era's, different styles, different sexes, different nationalities. So much difference between these artists. Both have talent - and threads like this force people to make reactions that are probably fair on neither artist.

Back to Black is a great album but is very stylised. I'd be curious how it could be followed. Further despite Amy's great voice I would never even consider that the album had anything to do with her as a whole. To compare Prince and her seems a bit odd.
