"Crucial" - sax or guitar version? This is such an underrated song, one of his true lost classics, but cannot decide which version I prefer the most.
In the past I used to rate version 1 as my favourite but, having recently revisited the track, I think Eric Leeds overeggs the pudding a little with his intricate reeding - saxophone overkill, perhaps? Version 2 is rocking my world right now . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

The guitar version. Nice solo and wicked use of the wah. Great song too.

IMHO, the Saxaphone *made* this song. I wish he would have released the whole 7:20 minute saxaphone version

I hear you. Care to elaborate as to why you would choose the saxophone version over the guitar version, though? Frankly, now that examine the responses (and gone back to listening both tracks)I find Im more swayed by the guitar version. Like I said before, I love Eric Leeds' playing but on this particular occasion he goes a little "bonkers". Seemingly nobody was around in the studio to tap him on the shoulder to tell him to stop. Whereas the guitar version features a brief guitar interlude that's quite possibly one of the pretties melodies Prince has ever come up with. "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
