Appreciation for the Morning Papers!

I dont see this song mentioned often here, but personally i think it is one of best vocal performances in his 'lower / normal register': bluesy, full of soul.

Its one of the songs that makes me think he should abandon the falsetto more often, because his normal register can carry the emotions better IMO.

Alltough the production could be labelled 'a bit slick', this song, next to his vocal delivery, has some great horn arrangements and i really love Michael Blands drumwork on this song!

The Morning Papers is one of my favorite Prince songs. I like the storyline; every time I listen I get sad because I can tell how much Prince loved Mayte.

I agree totally about the horns and drums, both very well done. I would have to say that for me, what makes this song really shine is P's guitar work. The solo is very powerful, but not over the top.

As for the voice thing, I've never been too picky at all with Prince. His normal register is excellent-sounding, but his falsetto is superb as well: IMO, Prince is the best falsetto singer, and one out of 3-4 artists that can actually pull off falsetto in the first place. I don't think that his register makes any difference in P's ability to convey emotion. Adore and I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore are two examples where he sings in falsetto and you can really feel the emotion in the song.

But yeah, The Morning Papers is great! love
