Prince Lock Down

Horns; no no no!
Wailing background singers; no no no!
Disco: no no no!
Prince & The Band; no no no!

Then lock him in a studio with TWO guitars, a drum, a piano, a synth, a bass.

And maybe a cowbell.
He is allowed to take Renato and that's IT.

Rick Rubin behind the board. Uhmmmmm.

Let's see what happens...

Asking audiences "What's My Name?"; no no no!

At this age just reinforces our fears he cannot remember it, or his lyrics...

No Sheila. I like the woman, but maybe she can overdub some backing vocals later on?

I like Renato lots cuz he seems to be able to take Prince to different places, like back in the day working with Wendy, Susannah and Lisa was one of the influences that made him swerve of the typical funk/rock track.

I just weant him out of his greatest hits mood and make him forget about him ever listening to disco. Play that funky music, Prince. But without them fucking horns.

I ain't saying she isn't talented. I like her lots, to be honest. But I think what Prince needs is to be taken out of his safe environment to be able to make cutting edge music again.

Having Sonny and Michael behind him made him swerve to a firm, dirty funk sound. Renato and Sheila took him deeper into the latin world lately and I would not mind him explore that a little more.

I rather have him do as much stuff on his own as possibly can. I love Prince's drumming.

I might allow Karin and Olof Dreijer in the studio to program his synth for him. They may even stay in a little longer jamming with him.

he certainly seems to fly when hes doing his latin thang

im digging that santana/george duke kinda vibe

but i agree-sack all of his band and get some young HUNGRY musicians-just like miles used to-get him stretched again and without any preconceptions of radio play etc-that just cuts out the tiresome innerview dogma where he bangs on a a little TOO MUCH how he doesnt care about hits??!!

I kinda like him locked down. Him in a drafty warehouse with just those instruments and a sound engineer.

And whatever gets his artistic fluids flowing.

I can imagine we insert Vanity or Susannah Version 2008 and then when he starts digging here, we take her away again, so he can write nice ballads.

cool

You know, I do not mind him playing different stuff than what I want, as long as it sounds inspired and fresh. So if he wanna do a gospel album I am all for it, for instance, but I am saying no to vocoded storylines.

hmm
