"Dance the Dance Electric...There isn't much time." This song has a neon, Aargon, Xenon, kind of illumination 2 it. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I love this song so much. I really think Prince should have kept it for himself. It sounds so good.
But its fine with Andre C doing it, too. I've developed a bit of soft spot for him though since I'm just discovering his own noon Prince related stuff stuff. He's pretty damn cool. I like his style. Right now, its my favorite Andre C. song, but I haven't listened to much at all besides some live stuff.

Wait, didn't 17 Days come from this same period? Put THAT on the special edition CD, too, along with She's Always In My Hair and Hello.
Dance Electric takes me way back, And I do remember that interview or something with Prince saying something about Andre and Prince being crazy etc. Back in the day.

I'm with BG on this one. As much as I like ATWIAD I think "Dance Electric (long version), "She's Always In My Hair", "Hello" etc would have made a more exciting album after Purple Rain. Prince's version of "Dance Electric" is dense, confrontational funk and the perfect statement coming after PR. "She's Always In My Hair" has more power than anything on ATWIAD and just screams hit (particularly in 1985). These tracks combined would have made a very powerful album and one which I probably would have prefered to the funky psychodelica of ATWIAD

That's a really interesting idea...I feel like "The Dance Electric" would have been an interesting continuation, more in the pop/rock vein, unlikely the folk psychedelic vibe of ATWIAD. Maybe he thought it would sound too much like Purple Rain II? I know he always talked about how he wanted to do a complete 180 and shock everyone, it seems like the funkiness and dance/rock on "TDE" was more similar to PR, and he really wanted to throw something different out there. Also, that MTV interview? Priceless. It makes P look like he's CRAZY, esp. when he's telling the story about talking to Andre about the track. That whole interview is just kind of unbridled and nuts, but in a great way, it's him being honest and just who he is, and I dig that!
