From his point of view, I can understand why he wouldn't want to. For one, this album was largely a love letter to a woman he's since divorced. Second, he surely associates this time with the death of his only child. Last, this album wasn't at all the hit he expected it to be, and it isn't even popular among his diehards.

Sincerely, the only tracks worth of being played again in a Prince tour are Get you groove on ( a classic) and Jam of the year, but it sounds dated, though

There was so much buzz about this album.

On the boards he hinted he had tons of albums done.

Exodus, Gold, and a 3 disc set not yet named. Plus some acoustic thing.

I remember all the promises about giving away the music for free or very little charge and releasing tons of stuff.

But like anything with Prince you can't believe it until its in your hands.

I never really liked Emancipation, there is enough material for a good 10 song album, but the production, the name dropping, some of the covers, just stink of trying to have mass appeal.

He is at his best when he pushed envelopes hard and people either get it or they don't.

It happens every once in awhile that the general public's taste and Prince coincide with each other. I find the albums I like less are the ones that seem forced to fit into the cookie cutter industry standard of the times.

The one that was out there for me and I loved was TRC, the music not the lyrics.

The rest of the albums has been Prince by the book. A r&b slow jam, a guitar (more keyboard) based rocker, a latin flavored, etc.

I want something like Does not Compute, Wasted Kisses, or something pushing boundaries.
Music is the best...

I've never really loved Emancipation. A lot of it felt forced and contained that 90s blandness that he was getting on a lot of his work back then. Also, I agree with the previous post that the album probably reminds him of his love for Mayte.

There are many albums that he rarely does tracks from. Has he EVER done songs from The Truth? EVER?

from the album emancipation id love to hear 'The Love We Make' live
but seeing as though im from Australia i doubt that'd happen
he'll come and play them "hot tracks"
unless he organised a secret gig for fans or somethin

I also believe that this album is very sentimental to him and it's one of the few he's done that I feel shows him as more than just an artist. It's a very personal album coming from an artist who isn't always accessible on such a level. I can't see him playing, "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife" ever again, because it was his wedding song when he married Mayte. His unborn baby's heartbeat was incorporated into one of the songs. If he does play anything from Emancipation, very few songs will be the personal ones. All the songs on that list are songs that are either covers or more upbeat and less personal than others. I can't say I blame him. Who likes to be saddened by old memories everytime you play a song, especially memories that soo many people know about. Personally, I liked Emancipation, but didn't feel that it needed to be 3 discs long. It's one of the oldest Prince albums I've had and I'm still trying to get into Disc 3...lol Only really like "One of Us" and that's a cover from Joan Osbourne, so I liked it before Prince did it. I think it's a good album...better than Crystal Ball IMO. "Let's Have A Baby" is still in my Top 10 all-time favorite Prince songs ever... mushy

i think he was trying to show the world (and WB) that he was capable of so much more now he was "free"

lol But, SOTT was 2 discs and 1999 was originally 2 discs, so I don't get what an extra disc was going to prove. By the time Emancipation came out, lots of people already knew that Prince was a musical genius who had been releasing an album almose every year since he came out. nod

sure its a little bit long and neutral... and prince for some reason thought it was a good idea to use kirky-j's stripper/g-funk music in the production.but its has its certain charm.
