Why are you still a Prince Fan in 2008?

I did a thread like this on HQ but I wanted to know where my fellow orgers are with Prince today. It's been 30 years since Prince showed up to the music world with For You and he's still around 30 years later with Planet Earth from 2007. A lot has happen in those 30 years, especially in the last year. So after all that's taken place all these years, why do you you still call yourself a Prince fan? Is it the Man? His music, old and/or new? The live shows? The fans? Everything? Whatever it is, it's YOUR experience & no one can take that from you, so please share your thoughts with us. biggrin
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

For me, it's the whole experience. Prince has been the soundtrack of my life since I was 5 and I'm 29 now. The shows are events and no one can match them, PERIOD. Plus, I've made some great friends from around the world thanks to Prince, the org and HQ. IMHO, It's a blessing to be a Prince fan. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Prince and his music.

Well...Prince is a long term relationship. By the time I was 26 I realised i had everything by him and sought out every single thing the man has ever done. He is a part of my history now.

The main reason is, because I am desperate for new funk and Prince is the only person these days that still makes it.

Another reason is, even though he has never accepted it himself, I have always believed that he is gay and I have always admired that he isn't the weak limp wristed sissy that goes and cries when someone calls him a name or tries to mess with him. When he feels that he has been crossed, he is a ruthless bitch that goes for revenge, shows no mercy, and makes the person wish they had never crossed him to begin with. lol

His new releases still facinate me (not as much as the 80's and 90's) but they do....and for gods sake im hanging around in hope he'll pull finger and release some classic vault stuff.

Being a fan keeps me in the loop

He's a genius.....

Well.. Prince and I are close in age. It seems like we grew up together. His music has always been a part of my life. The only weird part about it is that I look older and he doesn't. He is like a old friend, he is still around and I recognized him and it is still good to hear from him.

hmmm
I still anticipate new releases, and I look forward to live performances. When I go to shows, I have soooo much fun. I meet new people, enjoy the music, and just have a good time. biggrin I've gone to other artists' concerts, but I can only think of one other whose was as much fun. zipped

With the way new music is, nothing holds my attention for a long period of time. Also, I'll buy the 2nd or 3rd of a new artist's work and be very disappointed. sad I can always find something I like on a Prince album. nod

I do believe that Prince fans have an artistic eye and a deep appreciation for music that moves the soul...And Prince has been tough on a tough road.
Prince can wear a white suit or cowboy bootz...Shiny Purple tin foil or a dress, it doesn't matter if anyone has made fun of him...at the end of the day,,,when he's naked, he can still flash a checkbook bigger than yours or mine. T cool

He's an interesting fellow.

I'd rather listen to 3121 than "I'm in love with a stripper" or "I like the bartender" or "I love the hobo lady that sleeps behind McDonald's"

I, for one, am still discovering stuff

I'm in love with that guy 27 years ago that had balls like a Brahma Bull. Even though a period of time has passed, it still exists in time.

at this point, it's kinda tradition. i've been a fan since i was 13, so i have years of excellent memories and great music to look back on. even if what he's been doing recently isn't exactly my cup of tea, i'll still buy the new albums because i always have, and i'll always find SOMEthing to appreciate in any new project he does. unless he manages to piss me off in some way i could never imagine even PRINCE pissing me off, i'll keep checking out whatever he releases.

Might as well repost what I said at HQ, too.

Well, even if a period of time has passed. It still exists in time. And, more importantly than that, it still has an effect.
It's not 1981 (84...86...95...whatever floats yer boat). But 1981 exists and it kicks ass. And its blowing my mind now, in 08.

So there is my bit of Rafiki wisdom for ya'll.

I'm still a Prince fan 4 all the reasonz u've listed, purplecam.I 1st heard Dirty Mind thru my brother, who never hesitated 2 let me know that Prince was the greatest thing since sliced bread.I laughed at that, listened 4 myself, and he was right-Prince is THE man.1st off,he'z gorgeous-guyz and girlz must admit that-SO sexy and alwayz immaculate. His songz r not just wordz, they're deep.I don't just bob my head r do my sexy dance 2 Prince songz-his lyricz make u think-about everything from love 2 sexuality and so much more.I pity the people who've never seen this man at work.I've seen many concertz~everybody from RHCP 2 MJ,and none of these actz even come close 2 the kind of show that Prince putz on.He putz them all 2 shame! Another plus is that it'z real music by real musicianz-no fake stuff here! When u come away from a Prince show,u WILL b satisfied.4 this reason,I'd go anywhere I can afford 2 c him per4orm.If he did a show on the moon,I'd try 2 rent a spaceship 2 get there. He even has his own legion of celeb fanz, not only orgerz and quakerz.Over the yearz, the music and his attire have changed, but this change representz growth. He keepz me on the edge of my seat-wondering what 2 xpect next.Just when I thought he'd done all that there is 2 do,along comez the R&R Hall of Fame and the Superbowl! Never has there been so much hype surrounding the halftime per4mance,and I think AI had more viewerz the nite he was on since itz' inception.Being the class act that he is,he even thanked the viewerz 4 watching the halftime show.I adore his shy personality and appreciate his humor when he appearz on showz with the likez of Jay Leno r Bryant Gumbel. It'z touching 2 c him do 1 on 1's with Tavis Smiley r Oprah Winfrey.Casual fanz come and go,but real fanz r the 1's who know.A lot of folx claim 2 b fed up with Prince and his so called "antics" of late, but they break their necks getting 2 any show he popz up at,so as not 2 miss a moment.I could go on,but I don't want u guyz 2 think that I'm a fam. lol As Alicia Keyz so accurately said "There r many kingz, but there'z only 1 Prince" worship Great thread, purplecam! wink
