I'm still a Prince fan in the 08,because music is something that lasts for an eternity & doesn't have some kind of countdown timer ticking to say when it's bad or as the sellouts say,''crap now'',& also people shouldn't segregate music, because a true person that knows what music truely is,will surely have a complete diversity of a music selection see cool
I started listening to Prince back in the early 80s,& always stayed a loyal fan & always will smilesmilesmile Stay Kool Prince cool Also he should be in the books with Hendrix,Mozart e.t.c.

P.S. Purplecam,peace & blessings to you cool
People remember what Prince said about time,''time is a trick'',as in life after death is eternal, but in this life we have a timeclock telling us when we are getting old, shutting down, then we die so since this life is only temp, when we die, that's for eternity,so what is this life compared to an eternity ????

at this point, it's kinda tradition. i've been a fan since i was 13, so i have years of excellent memories and great music to look back on. even if what he's been doing recently isn't exactly my cup of tea, i'll still buy the new albums because i always have, and i'll always find SOMEthing to appreciate in any new project he does. unless he manages to piss me off in some way i could never imagine even PRINCE pissing me off, i'll keep checking out whatever he releases.

You mean controlling you wasn't enough? lol

he can control my bank account when i have the control to spare. lol

Sure, we orgers might've seen how flawed the man is in recent times. But aren't we all flawed as human beings in one way or another?

I was watching one of my concert DVD's (I believe the one from the 1999 Tour) recently. It still kicks my ass (in a good way) and inspires me the same way it did when I was a child all those years ago. The fact that his music still makes me wanna dance, and cut loose, or maybe pick up my guitar and get funky really exemplifies how deep his music has touched me. He set the bar really high for me to which all music should be judged and viewed.

Put on a "1999" right now and see if it doesn't make you wanna get down. wink

I think during my childhood I looked up to Prince more than someone like Jesus. He was just that heroic to me. This confident man who graced the stage to display his talent and energy gave me this joyful feeling like no other.

And I don't really mean to bring race into this but let's face it: life is hard, especially when you're an African-American that thinks outside the "box" does things in your own unique way. I looked up to Prince because he was this person that made me feel comfy to be myself and be proud of who I am. He made it cool to look, act, and sound different from what the other brothers and sisters were doing. But that was part of the appeal. So in that sense he was an instrumental figure in the shaping of my own identity. His music is also kinda like therapy in that those crazy sounds he creates can make my life a little less miserable. He also taught me how to challenge the status quo through the music and never to limit yourself in your exploration of sounds.

A this point (like my man Anx said), it's almost like a tradition to be a Prince fan. And not just for me, but my family too who also loves the man. Seriously, I've yet to meet a single relative that doesn't like Prince. We know good music and have great respect for successful African-American artists. Also, Prince is a music icon whose variety of musical styles is one that many folks can relate to. Whether you're a fan of Rock, Funk, Jazz, Punk, Metal, Hip-Hop, Techno, New Wave (wink), Reggae, Blues, or whatever, he's an artist that's accepted by all kinds of audiences. I couldn't bring a band like...say...I don't know...System of a Down into a conversation among Jazz cats. Or a band like Talking Heads among some B-Boys. But the topic of Prince is most likely to get one of great compliments.

Sure, I'm upset about how he's not the same as he was or how he's gone off the deep end. But at this point I can't picture my life without him. He would have to do something completely heinous or deviant for me to stop loving him, and I can't even imagine that. And if it would ever come to that I would pray for his soul instead of shunning him. Besides, it's always exciting to see what the man has up his sleeve next. Sure, it may never be as good as "1999", but either him or Taking Back Sunday. lol

And that is why I still love Prince in 2008.

Not much is going on with Prince now that interests me and it's been that way for some time. I call myself a fan based primarily on his earlier innovations and the overall legacy he's created.

Simple....

1. He is a talented musical genius
2. His music is in a class of his own
3. His songs are timeless
4. His live performances are second to none
5. He is dead sexy
6. His lyrics are pure poetry
7. He still gives me goosebumps after all these years - and there's no one else I can say that about
8. His music can bring joy to my heart, but also bring tears to my eyes
9. He continues to produce new material
10. He touches my soul angel
so, what is the answer 2 the question of U

I'm still a fan in '08 because I was a fan since '79. I'm not a person who only sticks with people in the good times. If I'm with you, I'm with you. Although I don't like everything he's released, I'm in love with the music, the lyrics, the style and the attitude of the man. His live performances were fantastic in the 80's and have evolved into something even more special recently. I've watched folks who used to criticize me for being a fan of Prince become intrigued in the last few years after putting aside their stupid prejudices and LISTENING to the music. I was a fan 29 years ago, am a fan today and will be a fan of Prince until the day I die.

that's me exactly. the org as a community interests me much more than Prince himself. I doubt that I would be interested much in seeing him live if not for the actual involvement of the Prince community itself. I have made so many friends here and so it is worth it for me to still stay connected to the man even if he's acting like a stupid dickface. Not much of his recent output gets my attention but I faithfully go back to the old stuff. Still.....

I'm still a fan because....

He's a real musician
He still releases new music
He's a great musician
He has a great voice
I love his guitar playing
His music is as interesting or more interesting than most newer stuff
Same reason I still love and enjoy listening to the Stones or Beatles - great music, great musicians.
Great live performances
Amazing catalogue of music (hours and hours of enjoyment)
And, he's still sexy razz

Because he's still the greatest artist and musician today.

He's still making incredible and imaginative music that not only is superior to everything that is out now but is also ahead of it's time.

I guess it's the hope that he'll someday release an album that touches me again. I've seen hints of that potential in some of his newer songs like The Dance and Somewhere Here On Earth. The hope of (at least) one last great Prince album will always keep me coming back.

I'm nothing more than a casual listener, but I've known of him since I was about 2 or 3 years old in the mid 80's and loved the purple rain songs as well as others and was feeling him, so he was definitely one of my childhood favourites and for that I will always appreciate him as a artist and for being innovative and influencing a whole generation. I can name a handful of songs today that sound 'like a prince song'

That's another reason why I'm still a fan. There are so many artists who have been biting the man's style and that amazes me. Not forgettting how unoriginal those acts are, just knowing that if they have to bite from anyone, they might as well bite from the best.
