...is this Princey's way of celebrating For You, 30 years on?

Seems too much of a coincidence date-wise. After all he's been quiet for ages and then he appears on the anniversary of his first album release?

"Oh, I understand it just fine."
No you don't because your ranting about the covers at a show you did not even attend.

I am not the only person on this thread who thinks commenting on the music at a private party that you were not attending is a little out there. Sorry that is what I think. I also think that a few things are just your opinions.

Everybody is tired of Sly songs and Larry G. ( most funkateers are not tired of Sly and Larry G)

"get on with the business of making music relevant"

Relevant to who. The 12 year olds who buying dirty south rap and mindless Hannah Montana and Jonas Bros records. Newsflash buddy P is almost 50. His days of having top 40 Cd are done and your probaly the only person worrying about it.
He is relevant to the people who come out to his shows and the bitchers who cannot tear themselves away from this board.

I am touch with reality and I certainly do not think P walks on water. I just have better things to do with my time than come to a fan site (notice the word fan) of an artist I do not care for anymore and bitch. Which is something you do everytime you post on this board. I think you lost touch with reality a long time ago my friend.

[Edited 4/8/08 16:40pm]

Do not call me your friend. I am not. I will never be & I am not in the least bit saddened by that fact. It's pathetically condescending & childish. And your assessment of my reasons for being here is also incorrect.

If only you looked at my history of posts, you would see that while I tend to focus on the negative aspects of Prince's current music, how he treats his fans, & his public & private life, of which there is no shortage of issues, I do have plenty of positive things to say about him. My approach to being a "fan" is far more grounded in reality than your own. You cite me for my constant disdain for the man. Where's any shred of evidence that you can do nothing but praise him?

Ok, perhaps "relevant" was the wrong word. How about "not-shitty?" How about music that isn't sub-standard, by-the-numbers & derivative? How about music that the Prince of 20 years ago wouldn't bother putting on as a B-side because it's so bland?

"Funkateers?" Do you wear little hats & sit on a couch? Sly & the Family Stone made great music. Decades ago. You can see Sly on tour & while some might consider him only an echo of his former self, Prince is wasting his time creatively playing as a Sly & the Family Stone tribute band. And it doesn't matter a damn if we're talking about a private party or the middle of some random concert in Wyoming. While it gives Larry Graham something to do, I'd like to think that Prince can be more than that. I'd love to see him challenge himself again. And challenge me as a listener. That won't happen playing Everyday People for the 457th time.

A desire to see Prince have another run of Top 40 hits has nothing to do with it Dirty Mind went nowhere on the charts & it was groundbreaking. No one in their right mind can say the same about Planet Earth, 3121, Musicology, etc.

naw it's time 4 u 2 jump back in2 ur underoos and grow the hell up. there is nothing wrong with wanting 2 hear new material live. apparently ur the type that can't let it go and won't let it go. i don't need 2 listen 2 the radio 2 know there is nothing good out there on it.

and if ur gonna quote prince then do it properly, he said he was gonna retire the hits after the musicology tour which was only 4 years ago. it's hard 2 understand y people like u r not getting THAT picture and wonder y those of US that want him 2 STOP doing the hits r complaining that he is STILL doing it.

so all in all i will say FUNK u and have a nice day peace

-----
"nothing wrong with wanting 2 hear new material live"
But if you know he not going to be doing but a few new songs. Why keep going to the concerts and complaining.

Prince said he was going to retire some of the hits and the more risque songs.
He can't go out on the road and not perform any of the old material. The shows would not do well. I sometimes wonder what world some of you are living it.

Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and any other old school rock act tours and performs old songs. The fans would not pay to come out and see these groups if they did not perform their hits.

In addtion, P does aftershows and did a whole tour (Rainbow Children) were he did nothing but new material and sone people were pissed about that.

He does a good job of mixing it up and seems to be successful at what he is doing now.

i haven't seen prince live since the musicology tour and have NO desire 2 c him UNTIL he gets rid of the hits in his live shows. and if that doesn't happen it's not a big deal 4 me cause I can still obtain those shows. and prince could easily go out on the road and do a show devoid of hits. he did on the gold experience tour, he did it on the ONA tour and ur accounts that they weren't successful is driven from the "general public". DIEHARDS LOVED THOSE SHOWS!!! so ur idea of a success is very much different from prince's and the diehards.

when u mention the likes of the rolling stones, elton john (who can't do a show without a telepromter btw. track down the dvd of the september 13th show when he came out 2 sing with prince, he was starring straight at the lyric sheet the whole time), i got respect 4 all that u have mentioned, but the closest coming out 2 prince's new material is bruce. so that being said, with prince's output of new material that's hanging around is more emense the hits of yore. it's time 4 the likes of those that keep pigeon holeing prince from the 80's 2 b allowed 2 xpand his craft and xplore new areas.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Please, get rid of that tired old haggard bitch - the 70's were over 30 years ago - that worn out tired mutha-fucker needs to lay his tired old ass in the past - its a whole other planet now - bring back sonny - he could seriously play and he wasn't pushing that tired old religious JW punk-ass shite!!!

And before you sad-ass lemmings start pushing the larry drama, wake the fuck up and look at your calender - he's been a has-been for 30 years - don't let him drag Prince down that tired-ass track....

Those guys were the first black rock band and I doubt Prince would even being doing anything musically without their influence.

Check out this live concert. They had a lot of great songs other than "Dance To The Music"

Yea and fucking Abba and BeeGees and Leo Sayer were hip at that time too - and ALL that shit is TIRED to the fuck!!!!

Hard to please because we think it'd be nice if Prince stopped playing the same boring ass Sly & the Family Stone covers he's been doing for over a decade now? I don't think so.

The funny thing is, a lot of the fanatics on this site will accuse some of us of living in the past just because we miss the days that Prince was putting out good music. Judging by his devotion to these tired tunes, he's pretty stuck on the past himself. I'd just rather it was his own past & not his "big brother" Larry's.

No, hard to please because you do not seem to understand that this was a private party at P's house with some friends. He does not have to play what you want to hear. If you do not like covers at public concerts fine. Stay the hell home but get a grip on reality.

In addition, I do not see how anyone can fine Sly and the Family Stone tired.

1stly, they WERN'T ROCK!! they were funk - Jimi and the Band Of Gypsies ROCKED! - there's his rock influence (them and a whole bunch of white rock acts) - not that so old-school 70's, tired larry funk - that in NO FUCKING WAY SHAPE OR FORM influenced his rock vibe - that rock vibe was in spite of, not because of that fucking larry muppet!!! Let's be fucking real here people!!!

Sometimes he plays tired old (larry inspired) 70's funk, and other times he rocks! (and THAT'S why he commands the big dollars!- the rock - not the tired old funk)

The real $$$ come with the rock - the funk is just a by-product...

"1stly, they WERN'T ROCK!! they were funk -"

They were rock/funk as much as the funk haters don't want to admit it.
If you took the time to listen to the free live show in the link you would know this.
If you listen to this show you can hear so much influence on Prince it is unreal.
I understand why he may look up to Larry as a mentor and some of you need to get a grip on reality if you are really worried about who P hangs around.

Funk never dies it multiples. It just keeps growing and you funk haters need to get over it.

well u need 2 understand that not every show has an aftershow gig. so if u think that die hards will pay money 2 go c a tired set list that pleases promoters and the general public just 2 hear that announcement at the end of the show that the aftershow is going 2 b at so and so, U NEED 2 COME 2 REALITY.

But let's just say that some do, u don't think that those die hards will not come back 2 this site or any other site and bitch and complain about that main show?
