That's no lie.

Hard to please because we think it'd be nice if Prince stopped playing the same boring ass Sly & the Family Stone covers he's been doing for over a decade now? I don't think so.

The funny thing is, a lot of the fanatics on this site will accuse some of us of living in the past just because we miss the days that Prince was putting out good music. Judging by his devotion to these tired tunes, he's pretty stuck on the past himself. I'd just rather it was his own past & not his "big brother" Larry's.

I can't blieve people are complaining about the music Prince plays in his own house!! mad
Then you wonder why he doesn't wanna be bothered with you?? shocked

one of the best comments made. So true, must admit when I saw LG as a guest and the set list I was in the OOh Yuk bigade, but Christ let the man be free at least in his own Dayum house!.

No, hard to please because you do not seem to understand that this was a private party at P's house with some friends. He does not have to play what you want to hear. If you do not like covers at public concerts fine. Stay the hell home but get a grip on reality.

In addition, I do not see how anyone can fine Sly and the Family Stone tired.
Those guys were the first black rock band and I doubt Prince would even being doing anything musically without their influence.

Check out this live concert. They had a lot of great songs other than "Dance To The Music"

How about that..imagine as a musician/artist, people telling you who you should have in your own home, and what songs you should have sung or played or which musician you should or should not jam with, while giving a private party for friends, especially when they're not one of the invited ones..lol

The same people criticizing him for that are usually the kind of people you don't want in your presence or in your home.

Well-said.

Prince is a musician, playing what he wants to play. What he enjoys playing. Any musician will tell you that what they personally enjoy playing the most often isn't what the crowd wants to hear.

No one paid to get in this gig.

it WAS a party in the man's own house and, speaking selfishly, *I* wasn't there, so i really don't care if he played anne murray's greatest hits with the banana splitz as his backing band. actually, i'd be bitter if that happened. i love me some "daydream believer" and the banana splitz were the shit. but you get my point. though this news did make me remember that about this time 11 years ago (or was it only 10?), i was standing outside in rockefeller center watching prince and larry and chaka perform all those sly songs, which for ME was the first time i'd ever heard him do them. who knew i'd be hearing about the exact same tribute jam a decade later? biggrin

banana splits vs. boog-a-loos...wasn't this battle of the bands sequence depicted in the 'tick tick bang' scene from 'graffiti bridge'?

I don't know too much about Larry, and I'm not a fan of religious dogma, having said that, I think Larry has had a more or less positive impact on the man.
In the 90's It looked like he was lost, He didn't look or act healthy, at least in the public eye.
I think he was headed for self destruction, and in a way the Larry and the Jehovah Witness thing helped him.
Too me he looks healthier now, and seems more at ease with himself, going out playing at clubs and whatnot.
I think people in general don't just jump into another religion if they were not ready, or looking for change.

I'm going to hide now boxed

Do me a favor & detach your lips from Prince's posterior & think for a minute...if you were there, would you rather hear that same old tired crap that's not even his own old tired crap, or something new & exciting?

Remember how exciting it was around the mid 1990s, around the time of the NBA All-Star Weekend jam at Paisley Park? Prince was energetic & playing stuff people hadn't heard before. What's wrong with wanting that again?

clapping clapping clapping Amen to that! Some of these people are so demanding and irrational that it is disturbing. At the end of the day Prince is a musician - a very talented and successful one - who can play whatever, whenever, wherever and with whomever he wants. There is no armed man forcing anyone to listen to Prince's music or to pay to see him perform. None of these complainers were there because they weren't invited. I am sure P and his INVITED guests enjoyed themselves. That's all that matters. wink

I would have been over the moon to be there, just to hear Prince do Stand my fav Sly song, saw Sly himself do it last summer at Lovebox in London, it was still special but wish I'd seen him in his prime. Prince was so damn good at doing Sly songs at the aftershows. I'd love to see him do Stand at the Europe gigs!!

"Oh, I understand it just fine."
No you don't because your ranting about the covers at a show you did not even attend.

I am not the only person on this thread who thinks commenting on the music at a private party that you were not attending is a little out there. Sorry that is what I think. I also think that a few things are just your opinions.

Everybody is tired of Sly songs and Larry G. ( most funkateers are not tired of Sly and Larry G)

"get on with the business of making music relevant"

Relevant to who. The 12 year olds who buying dirty south rap and mindless Hannah Montana and Jonas Bros records. Newsflash buddy P is almost 50. His days of having top 40 Cd are done and your probaly the only person worrying about it.
He is relevant to the people who come out to his shows and the bitchers who cannot tear themselves away from this board.

I am touch with reality and I certainly do not think P walks on water. I just have better things to do with my time than come to a fan site (notice the word fan) of an artist I do not care for anymore and bitch. Which is something you do everytime you post on this board. I think you lost touch with reality a long time ago my friend.

"nothing wrong with wanting 2 hear new material live"
But if you know he not going to be doing but a few new songs. Why keep going to the concerts and complaining.

Prince said he was going to retire some of the hits and the more risque songs.
He can't go out on the road and not perform any of the old material. The shows would not do well. I sometimes wonder what world some of you are living it.

Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and any other old school rock act tours and performs old songs. The fans would not pay to come out and see these groups if they did not perform their hits.

In addtion, P does aftershows and did a whole tour (Rainbow Children) were he did nothing but new material and sone people were pissed about that.

He does a good job of mixing it up and seems to be successful at what he is doing now.
