That depends. Is the assignment just to bring ANY song? Or is it supposed to tie in to something you've been studying? What are you supposed to say about it: why you like it? Why it's a classic? Why it's innovative? Why it was a hit? How it's structured?
Give us something to go on... I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Sign O The Time s and Controversy would be (and will be ) great songs to discuss in ab academic setting. Sign O The Times content can be discussed on the issues it brings up that are still seemingly prevalent today, and how its a 1980's Whats Goin On ...Controversy can be deconstructed on its content by the questions asked in the song. Gay and straight--can talk about the issue of masuculinity in the AA community and the barriers that were faced head on, the insertion of a religious prayer in pop music, the free love hippy movement that was a part of the song (wish we all were nude, no black or white):a Sly Stone influence if there ever was one etc.. "Climb in my fur."

We are allowed to bring anything we want to class. We have to say something about the performer, why you like the song, etc..
So, if there is one typical Prince song i should bring to class, which one should it be?

The Cross and then you can discuss Prince and the Jehovahs and what the song is about and how it is shown in the movie Sign O The Times. What Prince's views on Religion are and what he Believes in relevance to The Cross. The Christ.

So, if there is one typical Prince song i should bring to class, which one should it be? Well in that case I would say it's up 2 u. Ask urself those q's and then u'll know what 2 do! However, if I had a COOL assignment like this I would take...Starfish and Coffee. Just 2 get a new prespective on what people think its about! Seriously though, I have NO idea! They'd need to set a whole day aside just 4 me!

Go with what you're feeling. I did the exact same task when I was a Freshman in High School for my Music class. It was May 94 and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World was still hot so I chose that as my project. I brought the video to school and explained the song and video in my view and also explained what was happening with Prince at that time and a lot was happening. Whatever song you're feeling now, it'll be the song you'll be able to explain the most. Oh, when I was done, more people applauded me than anyone else in the class and I got an A. It pays to use a Prince song for Music class. I hope this encourages you and the best to you and your project.
Peace I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

In '88 I brought "The Cross" with me. I'm not religious at all but could talk a long time about the lyrics. That is one point. The other point is how slowly the song builts up (adding one instrument after the other) and really gets going, Also got an A. That was my main song, in contrast I had "I wish U heaven" with me and because I liked "Alphabet Street" so much at the time also that sone. In addition I "tortured" them with the 18+minute Atlanta version of Purple Rain. We all had an hour for our artist. What fun I had.
Well choose a song that YOU think is special the rest comes by itself Good luck, Jan "Health is Wealth. Peace of Mind is Happiness. Yoga Shows the Way."

No contest. "Let's Pretend We're Married." It shows that Prince is truly a serious performer and not just a sex machine. Discuss the lines, "I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna fuck you!" and "I'm not saying this just to be nasty...but I sincerely wanna fuck the taste out of your mouth." Your teacher will love it.

There are so many, but what about Condition of the Heart or Crystal Ball? I think I would pick Crystal Ball because it surely shows a different Prince than most people know and you could point out some unique things about Prince through this song.
