well, it is not ruined because of the voice.. but indeed it taked away some positive thoughts of becoming a classic in my vault. Had great potential.. Last December, Muse, Rainbow and 1+1 and SHe loves me 4 me are nice jams, but the rest is filler, and the voice is a filler also.

Eye also think The Work, Wedding Feast and a few others are bunch of junk that just gets in the way..

and eye also think he should have Tracked LoveSexy, that was a lame move, people will listen if they want, not tracking a freekin album isnt gonna make peeps listen, it just made me wanna flush it down the Toilet, where ONA came from..

The Rainbow Children is Perfect "AS IS" There is No reason to alter it. It's Prince's best album in Years.

Each time I revisit it, I find that I love it even more. I always discover something that I hadn't heard before - just like any good Prince record. As far as 'The Message', I think you just need to take it a lot less seriously than the way it was presented by the first listeners to review it. I listened to it again last night and it occurred to me that the whole story made a lot more sense and comes across even more entertainingly (is that a word?) if you listen to it like you would a Dr Seuss story. The narrator voice harks back to the old days when Prince would add something 'sick' to a recording to make it more challenging for the listener. It's just a character, like at the end of "Temptation". The weirdness makes it fun and balances the general seriousness of the musical arrangements. It's just a story - like any other story - the bible and Grimms' fairy tales are full of them as well. Listen to it again and picture the events in the album reproduced as an animated tale ala Dr Seuss! Imagine the Bayac drawings on the cover brought to life with that drawing of Prince as the narrator!

Tom

The album was ruined the moment he littered it with narrow-minded, uninspiring lyrics.

In the beginning, I hated the voice and did an edit which removed all but the most essential parts and loved it. As time went by and I got more into the concept, I came to realise that the voice actually holds everytning together and tells the story. Now I wouldn't exactly say that I love it but it's fair to say that it is wrong without it.

I have actually played around with the voice, speeding it up to make it sound more like Prince. This actually has the effect of making it worse. It just sounds like Prince talking and sounds wrong. Speeding up further, ala Camille is even worse. So my scientific conclusion is that the voice as on the CD is actually the right choice.

The only thing that really bugs me on the album, is the computer voice section that babbles on about black/white, this/that. This is needless preaching and remains edited out of family name to this day. It is because of this section alone that I rate it 9/10 instead of 10/10. Certainly one of Prince's greatest works.
RIP sad

It's not so much the voice over itself as much as the message. The prince album had a non advisory lyric version, how about a non-pseudo preaching version of the rainbow children
I feel pretty, that's enough
