SIGN OF THE TIMES DVD - CANADIAN VERSION I very much want to purchase this concert movie but, would like to know some things in advance.
Is it true the Canadian version IS the best? And if so, why? Is it an official release, in other words, was it given the all clear by PRINCE? And, can this version ONLY be purchased from Canada? Thanks in advance.

I have the version you're talking about. I ordered it from Amazon.ca a few years ago. I do believe that it is official and only available in Canada. Perhaps because of U.S. laws/licensing? I don't know - but it seems that Canada, the UK, and Japan get more good stuff than we do here in the U.S.
I was very hesitant in ordering it, but after reading many great reviews I bought it. I was not disappointed, not in the slightest. The sound and picture quality/clarity are (to me) pristine. There are no extras and the package art is slightly different than it was 20 years ago, but it's a beautiful presentation nonetheless. Whether or not it was given the "all-clear" by Prince, I don't know.

He's asking about quality - not content.

Will it work in an American DVD player?

Yup, I ordered it from amazon.ca last week and am currently watching it on my DVD player. God bless Amazon comments...I would have ordered the Brazilian version if I hadn't gotten a good hint from a buyer's comment. I say order it - it's well worth it, and who knows, it could go out of print very soon.

it is digitally remastered - dolby surround sound
video and audio are flawless - all other DVD releases are inferior (except the original laserdisc release which is also superb)

Yep, you should buy it. It's good and legit.

Okay, stupid question, it costs about 15 CDN. What's that in U.S. dollars?

I bought it the day it was first released in Canada from Amazon.ca and was pleased beyond belief. It is the official version and it is digitally remastered with dolby 5.1. This is the only version you should get unless you have an old laser disc player. That version is great too. The exchange rate on the money is just about equal, so $15 would be a great deal. Get it before it goes out of print. __________________________________________________

Cheers guys/gals.
Definiately sounds like the one for me. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to throw away my money.

@ rap: As others have stated, The Alliance version from amazon.ca is legit. The Brazilian one is a boot. I have the Alliance one and it plays just fine (I'm in the US).

This explains why I was surprised by the quality when I watched it after reading the reviews that said it was not that great. I did not know what the reviews were referring to. So this clears up the confusion about my Canadian copy.... _~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_~:~_

Ahhh....about the same! The US and Canada are neighbours...not that far away at all! And our appliances work in your outlets too... He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...

I bought it in the HMV in downtown Vancouver in 2006, for about $16. They might have had other copies -- I don't think it's overly hard to get in Canada. And yes, it's fantastic!!! (Canada DVDs are Region 1; the same as the USA.)
