What is one of your best "new music stories" from a new Prince album? Mine...hmmm
Best ever was waiting for the new and extra secretive new single to drop from Around The World in A Day The hype, the Rolling Stone article with P on the cover, the post-Purple Rain excitement...it was all there! And than I heard it...Paisley Park. wow! All I could think of when I finally heard it was the story in Rolling Stone of Prince sitting on the floor when he played the new song for the head honcos at Warner Brothers and feeling an awe and shock at what I heard. I was instantly hooked in by the Beatle-type 60's vibe and was completely not expecting such light fare after the success and rock and pop oriented Purple Rain. I wondered what the execs were thinking when they heard it and Prince's deadly silence sitting on the floor probably not doing anything. His persona was still such a mystery in '85 and this song was groovin'! I have always been a sucker for Prince's tricks with the guitar and his sound here with his amazing layered vocals had me almost in tears near the end. Wendy & Lisa sounded perfect backing P and the eccentricities of the song both lyrically and musically made me smile. I remember having a huge smile on my face as Prince brought the single to an end in his classic climatic way with all the chaos of sounds and than it faded into a single solitary violin and funky thick synths that literally took me a minute to recover from. It than began to rain ever so lightly outside and the world stood still for that second. That was it. The moment I still remember to this day of hearing new amazing music that I will always remember...Thank P What's your story??? The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I was pretty excited about "Musicology." because it came out with the thrill of being able to see the tour's opening night in LA from theatres. I had enough time to know the music because I had recieved the cd from a radio station...and I was able to see opening night live in the theatre...and also see the concert in my hometown. Now that I think of it, I haven't been a 'true' P fan until after Planet Earth was released, so I can't tell any stories here. I'd only heard a couple of his main hits, so I was completely oblivious to how much of a genious he was. Next album, I'll be ready.

Well I saw the U Got The Look video last night and I hadn't seen the video in a long time and I forgot how much I loved the it. I felt like I was 8 again when I first saw the video on MTV. It made me want to listen to Sign O the Times, which I haven't listened to in some time. It's funny how sometimes you have to be away from something in order to really appreciate it again. I'm seeing that just with the video. Cool stuff. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I bought "Musicology" the day it came out. The first Prince album I ever bought was "The Hits/The B-Sides" boxset, followed by "The Very Best Of Prince". During the "Musicology" Tour, Prince came to...I think it was, the Civic Center here in Iowa? Anywayz, I watched a commercial on TV for Prince's "Musicology" tour, saying that "Playing his hits 4 the very last time!" BULLSHIT. We were going to see him in concert, but it didn't work out. I won't go in2 detail about it or name whose fault it was.
Also, I was at a McDonalds/BK restaurant in 2004 with my Dad, but we had also just been at a car repair joint. I don't remember which place I stole it from, but I just know that I was having that copy of the Rolling Stone magazine May 2004 issue, with Prince on the cover wearing a white shirt with red polka dots, with me when I was in the restaurant. I still have it, of course! [Edited 3/18/08 11:56am] Stuck like glue!
