If Prince did a gospel album.... Would you buy it even if you're not a gospel fan?
Would the gospel community accept Prince? Would you like him to have guest artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama on it? Would he have a shot at a Grammy or the top gospel music award whatever that is? Would hell freeze so solid you couldn't get in with a blowtorch? No More Haters on the Internet.

If it sounded like "Prince music" with gospel lyrics over it, yeah, I'd buy it. However, if it sounded like traditional gospel music, hell to the naw. Andy is a four letter word.

Would you buy it even if you're not a gospel fan? Well I am a gospel fan, so I'll buy it.
Would the gospel community accept Prince? Some of the traditional saints would be resistant given Prince's notorious image. Would you like him to have guest artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama on it? They are cool; but I'd like to see him do something with Tonex (huge Prince fan) and the Clark Sisters. Would he have a shot at a Grammy or the top gospel music award whatever that is? The top award in Gospel is a Dove and for black gospel, it's the Stellar Award. Secular-turned-gospel artists have been nominated, so yeah. Altho there was some noise made over Kanye West being nominated for "Jesus Walks" a few yrs ago which got revoked. Would hell freeze so solid you couldn't get in with a blowtorch? Naw. Prince can continue to make funky music in gospel. Artists explore in every genre from R&B/soul, jazz, funk, rock, country, latin....the lyrics/message is what's pertinent. You also need to have a relationship with God and an anointing to minister & save souls. That's deep, but church folk know what I am talking about. The gospel community is especially keen on whether you are serious or not about doing God's work. No! He hasn't done anything wrong.Would the gospel community accept Prince? Of course they would! Would you like him to have guest artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama on it? I'd prefer him solo. Would he have a shot at a Grammy or the top gospel music award whatever that is?Most definitely yes. Would hell freeze so solid you couldn't get in with a blowtorch?

DEFINITELY! I THINK IT WOULD BE SOULFUL, WONDERFUL PROJECT. Would the gospel community accept Prince? FOR HIS TALENT, YES. BUT HE WILL ALWAYS HAVE THAT "NASTY" IMAGE THAT WOULD BE HARD TO SHAKE. (LITTLE RICHARD CALLED HIMSELF A PREACHER, THO, RIGHT?) Would you like him to have guest artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama on it? I THINK THAT HE SHOULD DO SOLO, ONLY BECAUSE IT WOULD MASK HIM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY ESTABLISHED IN THE GENRE. Would he have a shot at a Grammy or the top gospel music award whatever that is? THAT'S A TOUGH ONE... Would hell freeze so solid you couldn't get in with a blowtorch? HUH? I DO THINK THAT THE "ANTI-" PEOPLE WOULD FLOOD THE ORG W/ THEIR VIEWS & CONSPIRACY THEORIES AD-NASEUM, THO. Prince is a spiritual man and has already demonstrated his abilities...to change the world...to make a loving difference.
Prince won't ever be considered a gospel singer, because we have our Be Be Wynan's and Our Nicole Mullen's... Prince is Prince...and I will buy all of his music 4 the rest of my life. And I love God and Gospel as well as loving Prince. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I think the music P's putting out now is as close as he's likely to come to a "gospel" album.
He makes a lot of Scriptural references (has for many years), but he tends to twist them to secular contexts. Some examples: 7 Lion of Judah Thunder Te Amo Corazon The Rainbow Children album And, his image/schtick are still a bit too narcissistic/sexual to be received within a conventional Christian/gospel music genre. Someone who easily rivals Prince in musical talent, conceptual themes and prolific releases (and who does really awesome contemporary gospel music) is Fred Hammond. His entire solo catalog is jaw-droppingly good, and his work with gospel supergroup Commissioned was pretty legendary.

Well why not some traditional Gospel tracks arranged by Prince..remember the Rosie Gaines - Praise The Lord intro to Thunder on the Diamonds and Pears shows..spine tingling.

Well, I thought PE was pretty much Gospel Let me amend this statement Chelsea Rodgers sounds a little Gospel, the rest maybe not so much, but definantly religious
And for the recored....I LOVE Gospel [Edited 3/14/08 4:19am] PRINCE IS WATCHING U " When an Artist Creates, whatever they create belongs to society"

If this happened, it would certainly be interesting to say the least.
Would you buy it even if you're not a gospel fan? - I dig Gospel and I would buy it. No question. If Prince did Country album, I'd buy it too. Would the gospel community accept Prince? - That's a great question. It would certainly make news. I think if the lyrics & to some degree the music all come in line with what is traditionally gospel, then yes they would. Would you like him to have guest artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama on it? -I don't think it would hurt. Would he have a shot at a Grammy or the top gospel music award whatever that is? Who knows. You could ask the same question with his music now. Would hell freeze so solid you couldn't get in with a blowtorch? - No I don't think so but all the athesists and agnostics will be in this section in full force talking all of their anti-God stuff & before you know it, it will turn this place into the Politics and Religion Forum and that's the last thing this section needs. The controversy for The Rainbow Children would be pale in comparison to a real gospel album from Prince. If Prince ever does a gospel album, I would hope that he would make it as unique and as experimental as he can possibly make it. I'm not one who looks at Lovesexy or The Rainbow Children as gospel but if he went Balls-to-the-wall with a real God-conceot album, it would be wild and hopefully inspirational as all gospel music is supposed to be. With Prince, I've come to learn to expect the unexpected. [Edited 3/14/08 6:30am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I just think of the sexy R&B artists that have gone religious . Prince doesn't actually fit the mold, but I'm sure he could do a totally Gospel album if he really wanted to and folks like us would probably buy it. I don't own any Gospel yet...I think he was joking about Lovesexy...

How could anyone ignore someone as beautiful as chillichocaholic? I'm not sure about CR but "Lion of Judah" is heading in that direction. There is so many different styles of Gospel... what are folks talking about... Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, Yolanda Adams, Martha Munizzi or we can go old school with BeBe and CeCe ....
