Lovesexy could've been so much better...

I read recently that The Line was originally intended for inclusion on Lovesexy but was taken off after someone who worked in the studio said it wasn't as strong as the other material...

WTF? This song is hot! And the false-fade bit where Bonnie Boyer comes in at the end just blows me away!

In my opinion, if you took off the experimental flop that is Dance On and replace it with The Line and then add the ever-funky Escape (which never should've been relegated to b-side status) then the album would be as good as both SOTT and Parade.

1. Eye No
2. Escape
3. Alphabet St
4. Glam Slam
5. Anna Stesia
6. The Line
7. Lovesexy
8. When 2 R In Love
9. I Wish U Heaven
10. Positivity

What do you think???

Dance On is a gloriours piece of Funk. For me it's an essential part of Lovesexy.

What is it you don't like about it?

The line is good and I would love to hear the final verison with horns.

I like "Lovesexy" just the way it is...but more songs on it, (instead of taking songs off and replacing them with insert preferred song here)...that would be a good thing.

I love LoveSexy!

The only thing that would have made it better for me is if he would have included these two tracks:

"Good Love" and " Rebirth of the Flesh".... Both are so damned joyous that they would have just made an already good album perfect. It certainly would have rivaled SOTT as one of my favorite P albums.

I just don't like those tracks at all.

I think "escape" sounds like a throwaway b-side, and "The Line" sounds like something out of an old John Kusak movie from the 80s. Truly awful.

LoveSexy is a stronger album without them.

lovesexy is fine as-is. the only thing i don't quite get from that era is why they kept trying to push "when 2 R in love" - it was on the black album, it was on lovesexy, i think it was even the b-side to a couple of singles (i know it's at least on a couple of different configurations of 'scandalous sex suite'). and i mean, it's an okay ballad, but it's not THAT great. what was all THAT about??? shrug

I love LOVE love the way the notes are arranged on the synth part in that song. It's like he's shifting time signatures every 20 seconds or something.

But yeah--why promote the hell out of THAT song? Anna Stesia would have been the song to push, even with the overtly religious message.

I agree. Personally, I always though the song was whack.

Everyone is all over that song. It's okay, but its not ALL THAT. He's done WAAAY BETTER ballads. I don't know why this song gets all the love.

101

i agree it would have been a improvement..but mixing it with the black album and getting a storyline just like the lovesexy tour would have made a masterpiece beating any Prince album...

could be something like:

Le Grind
Cindy C.
Superfunkycalifragisexy
Bob George
Anna Stesia

Eye No
Lovesexy
Glam Slam
Alphabet Street
When 2 R in Love

mmm...this would have been amazing...(although i love I Wish U heaven and Escape i dont think they suite to well in here..)...

I think that if he had truly embraced the Prince/Camille dual-persona charade that he was touting at the time, he could have blown everyone's mind with a Black&White album. Essentially a 2-disc album with the Black album as one disc and Lovesexy as the other.

love the line, was listening to it yesterday. cool especially the james brown-esque bit at the end. "people, people, got a brand new dance" dancing jig worship. but i don't know if it would have worked on lovesexy though. dance on is the shit, i don't agree with you there. i never really felt the title track much, but shrug smile.

I love When 2 R In Love - it's a great song.
I think after Prince's trip he decided not releasing the black one - maybe ever, that's why he saved it and included on Lovesexy. Cuz he also loves it! dancing jig

The music of the Lovesexy disc is fine as is.

The only thing I would change in hindsight is the cover art; so many people were turned away just because of that.

I've always seen these 2 albums this way, with When 2 r in Love, as the song that bridges the 2 albums 2gether.
