It's just a quiet time in the Prince world.PE is already old news, there's no big tour in sight, and fans are just bored right now. There's really not much to discuss,is there?

More pictures for near menopausal bored housewives with no life to drool over.If Prince is drawing his inspiration from his fans, that explains why Planet Earth is so middle of the road and unimaginative.

But seriously, how many times can you discuss how awesome Darling Nikki is and how you remember the first time you heard Scandalous? He's not putting out new material worth a damn, so there's only so much rehashing you can do of his older material.

I love me some Prince, but I think I have most of the P music I want to have. I love discussing it, but it's just kind of boring to sit around going "yeah. Joy In Repetition. That sure kicked ass dintit?" over and over again.

I know we normally get a lull in good conversation after a Prince music drought, but its only 9 months since the last album and six months since the last tour....

What has happened to the Prince Music and More section!?!?

Endless idolisation threads. Prince in green, prince in red, moving picture thread, do you want him to tour thread.....christ, no wonder he wants us shut down, its not exactly inspiring is it?

More worrying is, when someone discusses the music, half the people say "I've never heard of that one but look at the this picture of his butt".

Please come back NPGMC.....take them with U.....

Rant over.... biggrin

falloff You should know this is par for the course when nothing is happening in the Purple World. I don't know about anyone else but I've gotten used to this now.

Why don't U start a topic we can all engage in, in a meaningful, scholarly, "serious Prince-fan" fashion? Your choice. We'll all join in and not disappoint U... comfort

I have a challenge for everyone.Let's see if we can turn this forum around. This weekend, let's flood this forum with new, interesting threads discussing things that we haven't discussed before,or haven't discussed in awhile. Can we do it? Can everyone think of some interesting stuff to talk about? For example...

"Since most of us agree that Graffiti Bridge sucks, write your own sequel to Purple Rain"----how would you continue the story?" lol

"Prince's unreleased 1981 concert movie "The Second Coming"---does anyone know the details about it?

"write an alternate ending to "Under The Cherry Moon"

"A prequel to Purple Rain----is this a good idea?"

Imagine if the movie Purple Rain had to consist of older Prince songs (recorded from 1978-82)....what songs would you choose? (we actually did this thread several years ago,but I'd like to do it again. It was a fun discussion).

Hey,I'm trying lol Let's flood this forum with fun, interesting discussion!

smile I mentioned it once, way back last year. Since then the quality of debate seems to have shrunk even further. I suppose I'm more asking the Q, why? I don't think its fixable. A lot of the die hard fans have gone elsewhere to chat because the forum took on such an idolisation approach once the hypocrites from NPGMC had no where to go and flocked here.

I don't think the users can fix it if 80% of the daily posts are coming from fams with little knowledge of the music and start endless picture threads all day.

I think only the mods can address it now, thing is, I don't think they want to. That of course doesn't make me right. Far from it. I just think its sad that a forum that used to be so vibrant has sunk to the lows of artist idolisation on a daily basis. I'm guessing thats why alot of the music fans have jumped ship to Housequake.

Planet Earth is only 9 months old and it was only really barely discussed for 4. Some may argue that the quality of the album doesn't deserve it.

But if P's current output is so bad, why would people come to the forum? To discuss his old music? That seems to be on the decline to.

So has the forum simply become the shrine to the once great artist Prince....who looks good in leather????

To be honest, I have an account at HQ. I was also a member of NPGMC. The one thing I don't like about HQ is that some of the people over there act like they know Prince himself. They are not very welcoming to those who aren't already up on "every little aspect of Prince's music", IMO. There are a few people like that here, who rolleyes at questions or naive statements from newbies. But overall, the Org is a nice place to hang out online. biggrin

I happen to know a lot about music & Prince and have a big collection, and have attended quite a few shows. Not everyone does/has, tho, and that can be intimidating when the "musicians" start talking circles around them about chord progressions and music genres, when all they want to express is how a song/album touched them. boxed
Pictures are something everyone can talk about and participate in. I find the "fashion choice" ones funny, because I am a female who is NOT attracted to Prince physically- it's ALL about the music. headbang (But clothes, I know.)

When U make threads like this one, U're implying that some people don't deserve to be on here "if they don't have anything important to say".

I never said there are not intelligent threads, I saying they get drowned out by either lack of participation or lack of visibilty through all the dross.

You are trying to keep what going exactly? Prince idolisation?

I've been here for almost 9 years now and it's interesting how this place has evolved especially since the org took on this format in 2002. Maybe it's just me but I really don't mind all of the picture threads. I may not go to them very much but you know what? Others do and if they want that, then why not have it? Stuff like that helps keep some people as fans and if that's what will work, then who am I to stop it? Who is anyone to stop it aside from the mods? I just don't go into it or I lurk if I have nothing to say but want to check it out. It's no different then with any other part of the org really.

I will say this much, if we start talking more about the music, I would like us to look at ALL eras of Prince's career, not just stopping at 1988 or 1996. Let's look at the great things that have come out this decade because contrary to popular belief, Prince has done some great things since 2000. If that's not anyone's fancy, you can pass it like many do with the picture threads. lol

It sounds like we are generally the same time of fan. I would never say no one deserves to be on here, but I do believe we should all strive to maintain a standard on the site. That standard seems to be slipping all the time. It used to be the place for THE debate. Now its like "Oooh Prince in fur!!!!"

Its more
drooling than headbang these days by a big margin.

I fully expect flack for saying it, because it will be seen as an attack on 80% of the posts at the moment. But that just sums it up! biggrin

Key point: I never said stop them. They work, they serve a purpose. I'm saying that the sheer volume of them has turned it all to dross. We already have a gallery, why do we need repeated threads over and over again full of gallery content?
