Did Prince regress artistically post One Nite Alone era?

I've been on a Rainbow Children/One Nite Alone box set/N.E.W.S. kick for a 2 weeks and from 2001-to 2003, Prince was preaching and advocating "real music by real musicians", and exhibiting those values that he extoled to the present by playing music with such diverse musicians of diverse musical backgrounds and it showed in his recorded music and his tours. But now I'm just sick of the 3121 era. I'm sick of the 3121 concept, the dancers. I can't put down Prince singing his hits because as much as I have heard just about every arrangement of his hits, that's the way to attract new fans. But there's like a musical sclerosis. Since he let go John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith and others, he's been relying on The Twinz and oversinging background vocalists on his tours since 2006. Renato Neto is the only player whose playing doesn't sound derivative. I say we petition Prince to re-assemble the One Nite Alone band or Musicology and make some new kick-ass music.

honestly.. im agree'ing with you.. i dont know why he ditched that band... no disrespect to the band he has now.. but i'll take the ONA/Musicology group .. the Vegas concert i was strung out on and im gonna have to buy another copy cause i kept rewinding 1+1+1 is 3.. Eric was killing it, Rhonda was ridiculous funky, Renato i always like..they were all on one page .. (and i was jealous as all hell .. they get to jam like that always hrmph..i wanna jump in!) ... i know Prince likes to switch up for a fresh group every so often... but i like the old group ..

I hope that for the next project, he changes it up again cause what he's working with is lame as hell. I miss that ONA/Musicology band and while I don't want a sequel of it, I want a band that can bring something new and special to the mix the way the ONA band did.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
