There is probably much more but that's off the top of my head.

Respect has gotten me this far and through a lot of material I would have turned the other cheek to if it had been any other artist. (The explicit sexual content wasn't my thing).

On the spot, I respected, and still respect Prince for his dedication to his art. He lives for the music like no one else I've seen before him. The way he lives and breathes music every day of his life, now that's a dedicated artist.

As I got to know him, I've respected him for going where few others dare to go (blurring lines that separate the norm and the bizarre). Also respect the fact that he doesn't let anybody tell him what he can and can't do with his music, not to mention he never follow trends or goes with the crowd.

And that's just a few things thumbs up!

I respect the fact that he makes his music his way. I admire how confident he is. No matter what his convictions are and even how silly his choices are, he sticks by them.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

His talent... and the fact that he's never stood still with it.

He's always developing, experimenting, taking risks, and he's not afraid of upsetting people, fans or press while he does his own thing.

Oh, and I respect him for taking his clothes off throughout his career... even when it was totally gratuitous heart love heart

I would definitely have to say that I respect for himself for his ability to be "FREE" in whatever he does. Whether it be to write a taboo song or dress in panties and heels. He does WHATEVER he feels and always succeeds.

I respect the role he played in discovering myself and being bold in who I am. This is all pre JW though lol Although I did respect the vision he set out, even in its imperfection, with TRC. He was really going for it and it was, and still is, a bold statement so I did respect at least one post JW thing wink

Totally agree

Prince has broke bounderies, where others would lose themselves in denial.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

His music and how prolific he really is.
Agreed.

His honesty and courage to speak his mind about his beliefs.
Yes well the beliefs have varied somewhat over time, and can be a touch 'too in your face'....i preferred it when his spirituality/beliefs were less rigid and less specific

His ability to bring people together through his music.
I believe he was able to do this years ago, but those powers appear to be lacking. He does however have the ability to divide them with bizarre antics - sometimes a good thing

His giving nature to charities and children.
Apart from love for one another - nothing else feally comes to mind. but I would like to think there is more, and I'm sure there is.

For all that he has given to the fans through his music club.
Well thats a very controversial statement - appeared to actually promise a touch more than actually delivered (lifetime memberships anyone). Again fans are divided on that one.

Just for being who he is a human being.
Well I hope he's a human being, but sometimes, watching him on stage, makes me think otherwise....thats said positively

There is probably much more but that's off the top of my head.

i respect him for standing up against record labels - admitedly, some of this was a tounch OTT, but i agree with the principle and his fight for artistic rights and freedom

I respect him for putting words to his thoughts and feelings
AND
for going public with the music knowing the criticism he might face
