SirPsycho said: eddy1876 said: The key to the whole thing comes in that scene where Christopher is going in to Tricky about how "theres got to be something else" love is the ultimate & "the flesh is nothing".
What Christopher/Prince is saying is that the metaphysical/sptiritual world (the "afterworld" in Prince-speak) is THE ultimate reality: the true reality & the only one with any meaning. Physical existence is therefore largely inconsequential--An illusion, which, not unlike a Parade, can be fun & may seem captivating while one experiences it but is in actuality little more than a distraction. This concept of a greater metaphysical reality has a long intellectual & philisopical history (see, for example, Aldous Huxley's "the Perennial Piliosophy"). In fact, Tracy's "parade" metaphor has many parallels to the allegory of the Cave in Plato's "Republic". And, of course, the whole "the afterworld is the ultimate reality" thing, is also a recurring motif in Pince's work. don't u love when you type stuff like this and people look over like: "nahhhh....it's about toes! definatly toes!" You and DigMeNow hit the nail on the head.

exhibit a.) the thrill women got from Christopher exhibit b.) the thrill Christopher got from women Christopher (prince) wants us to know that love is the ultimate end to all lives, and the fleeting thrills we're concerned with while on earth (fortune, fame, prestige- all themes in UTCM) doesn't compare "if two souls are one...if thats the ultimate...the flesh is nothing...we live in a parade. ya dig?" love is the answer. conquests seem thrilling in the moment. but the parade must pass, and be definition can never remain. i know u r quoting, but a correction is needed because: 2 souls cannot be one. 2 souls can be very very close to one another but are not one. 1 soul can be in 2 places, but it it is still one soul. 2 souls are never one. So much ponderance is needed, and i believe that is what Prince does, he tries to get people to open up their minds and beliefs and think about things in order to dechipher what the true meaning of existance is. [Edited 1/22/08 18:48pm] You have a good point. 2 souls as 1 does not excist. At least, I never witnessed it. It all about the level of a person's acceptance of things. The keyword I mean is tolerance. If you accept someone else's point of view or why he/she likes something, it seems as if 2 souls are 1. That's a very good thing. And mostly people divorce, have arguments/fights etc in their family life or at their job, whatever, because their level of acceptance is ZERO. And I don't believe that if you weren't thought that before your 5th birthday you will never be able to do so. And in a way I think jealousy is connected to this. But I'm way off topic now

DigMeNow said: Parades are FUN....
When Christopher is shot and dying he says, "We had fun didn't we." The opening of UTCM Mrs. Wellington's narration is: "Once upon a time in France there lived a bad boy named Christopher Tracy. Only one thing mattered to Christopher, money. The women he knew came in all sizes, shapes and colors; and they were rich, very rich. Private concertos, kind words and fun is what he had to offer them. Yes Christopher lived for all women but died for one. Somewhere along the way he learned the true meaning of love." Christopher's life(his parade) was all about FUN and MONEY until he finds LOVE with One. "Goodness will guide me when LOVE is inside me,Until then life's a PARADE!"-C.Tracy UTCM is the search to find Love..."With love there is NO death."-C.Tracy Christopher found LOVE, and even though the physical shell of the body ceased the LOVE remains and Mary Sharon knew that Christopher was right...She couldn't imagine herself with anyone else. [Edited 1/23/08 3:00am] Cool! But since this is a message Prince truly believes in, I really get this awkward feeling inside that he must feel somewhat lonely. He lived his life the best he could, being close to a normal life but in the end still no decent partner, at least not one with the intention "2 souls as 1". His persistent will to believe in god from his early years on seems to me as something good to hang on too in days of fear/frailty. A helping hand. I guess he's afraid to be alone, in his mind (he will have plenty of friends) and to die lonely. Believing in God and finding the "thruth" is his way of making secure not to be lonely, whenever, where ever. But then again, with or without partner, don't we all have this fear?

But I'm way off topic now When two people marry, they become one in the way that you cannot think of one and not think of the other, their lives merge into a single family unit and everything they do is dependent upon the other. This also makes me think of some older couples who have been together for practically their entire lifetime and when one passes away, the other one dies of a broken heart not too long after. It's as if they can't go on when the other is not there, and they cannot imagine life without their partner from many years. (I've seen it happen to a few old couples ) You were on a roll there and I wanted to add my two cents. [Edited 1/25/08 0:27am]

I only hope I get laid at least one more time before I die. And the fact that I've got not only the time, but also the interest to post this reply is an excellent indication that the chances of that outcome happening doesn't look too promising.
