Life is a Parade! what does that mean. I cant figure it out, ever since i saw UTCM i wanted to know what it meant so can i get some help here. | |

Life is a parade hmmmm u know maybe fun like a parade,so basically life is fun,then again no it aint fun(well mostly) especially when u reach adulthood
 hmmm i dunno maybe it means life is full of diffrent colours like a parade with all diffrent ppl and life is so amazing and you should life it 2 the full while u can cuz if u dont ull only regret it when ur in an old ppls home pissing all ova urself  [Edited 1/22/08 17:03pm] Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

I've often wondered this myself. I think what Prince was trying to get across with Parade was that he wanted it to be a showcase of his talents... putting them on Parade... which is basically what he does with his albums.
He gets his feelings out in his songs and puts them on parades called albums... and his musical catalogue is like him putting his life on parade for all to marvel at with wonder and enjoyment. I might need more time to think this over, but I think that's the best I can do for right now. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone | |

exhibit a.) the thrill women got from Christopher exhibit b.) the thrill Christopher got from women Christopher (prince) wants us to know that love is the ultimate end to all lives, and the fleeting thrills we're concerned with while on earth (fortune, fame, prestige- all themes in UTCM) doesn't compare "if two souls are one...if thats the ultimate...the flesh is nothing...we live in a parade. ya dig?" love is the answer. conquests seem thrilling in the moment. but the parade must pass, and be definition can never remain.  | |

So much ponderance is needed, and i believe that is what Prince does, he tries to get people to open up their minds and beliefs and think about things in order to dechipher what the true meaning of existance is. Prince probably wasnt thinkin about anything when he wrote that.. a parade is simply a giant festivity, dancing ppl, floatboats, those animated characters walking about, cottoncandy, clowns, parades are fun.. .. so let Life be a giant Parade .. what if Prince just meant 'parade' .. as in the actual parade... he doesnt talk cryptic in all his music .. | |

The key to the whole thing comes in that scene where Christopher is going in to Tricky about how "theres got to be something else" love is the ultimate & "the flesh is nothing".
What Christopher/Prince is saying is that the metaphysical/sptiritual world (the "afterworld" in Prince-speak) is THE ultimate reality: the true reality & the only one with any meaning. Physical existence is therefore largely inconsequential--An illusion, which, not unlike a Parade, can be fun & may seem captivating while one experiences it but is in actuality little more than a distraction. This concept of a greater metaphysical reality has a long intellectual & philisopical history (see, for example, Aldous Huxley's "the Perennial Piliosophy"). In fact, Tracy's "parade" metaphor has many parallels to the allegory of the Cave in Plato's "Republic". And, of course, the whole "the afterworld is the ultimate reality" thing, is also a recurring motif in Pince's work. | |

Life is a parade It's the basic theme of the film (and album), said in other ways on the LP All good things, they say, never last It's only mountains and the sea Basically...life, like a parade, has a beginning and an end, some parts are better than others, and you should enjoy it while it lasts.
