It was an NPGMC release, as far as I know.

Right. I feel a little dense for asking this, but doesn't that count as an official release?

Well, if we want to play word games (ie, "official" versus "bootleg"), I guess it is.

What I am getting at is, it wasn't a general release. You know...like to the general public...like you could buy it in a wrecka stow.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Just official releases under his own name(s):

- prince
- TGE
- TRC

(Exodus would get a look in if related artists were included, and better luck next time Come, ONA and PE, so close).

Those are my choices, too.

D&P could get a nod for it's song for song hit quality, but it was never my favorite.

The Truth was a departure that worked well, IMO, but it's not really official, like ONA which I've never had the opportunity to hear mad

Come was a personal favorite, but probably not as strong as an album. Really only a handful of great songs there.

3121 Was close to great, but definitely more flawed.

Emancipation definitely held my interest for a looong time, but the music isn't as exciting. Too sterile.

CAN'T. BELIEVE. MUCUCKOLOGY. COULD. EVER. MAKE. THIS. LIST! lol

My picks:

Gold Experience
Exodus (even with the seques)
Rainbow Children

Come and Chaos get honorable mentions mushy

And does the Truth count? Probably the biggest travesty of his career, hiding that as a hidden album. disbelief

The Gold Experience -- Still remains the most tragic externality of his war with WB. This should have outsold most of his catalogue.

One Nite Alone: Solo Piano & Voice -- Beautiful and underrated. This deserved a proper release.

Come -- His most atmospheric album ever. It's like a journey through Prince's subconscious.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

This is easy for me.
1. Diamonds and Pearls-my all time favorite
2. Emancipation-This would be #5 on my all time list of P albums
3. The Gold Expereince-Dark, funky, sexy, groovy.

I have 2 honorable mentions if the list were 5. 3121 and The Rainbow Children
Peace and be wild!

u might as well count exodus since people still belive NPS is a prince release instead of a related artist album

well to be fair, he did write all the songs, play most of the instruments
and he sings lead vox on all songs. i guess in my eyes that makes it just
as much a prince album as the other ones he's released.

ok, there were some contributions, like kirky j leaving the skeleton beat
for "mad sex" on the soundboard one day and prince taking a shining to it
but for the most part it's just a prince album. even if prince decided to
put the label "npg" on it for whatever marketing or contractual reasons.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

D&P- a lot of the tracks are sentimental to me-cream was around when i "hooked" up with my now husband....i danced at my wedding to D&P with my pop- who has since passed away

Gold Experience- ive actually been listening to this quite a bit lately- love TMBGITW/shh/319 and gold- all great songs- could do without the npg operator tho sigh

Planet Earth- loved this cd from the very 1st listen, While 3121, musicology and even the black album only made it into my home last year- it was Planet Earth that got me right from the get go. Chelsea Rodgers is my fav track, it always makes me wanna dancing jig- The 1 u wanna C was in my head 4 days id catch myself humming it at work lol, and even my boy loves guitar
seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before music beret

ONA was only made available to NPGMC members, so no it wasn't made available through general release in stores, but it was an official physical release.

i know this is beating a dead horse, but if because prince wrote the music, sang lead or whatever, then we should b putting every single related artist he was worked with since he wrote all the music sang on it but the released versions have the related artist's vocals on the finished product, a great xample of that is the family
