True, though it's easy to see NPS as a Prince album since the cover just is a huge picture of him lol

well that's prince's leg on gold nigga nod and he's on the cover of exodus and took the pictures inside of the family's album then

smile okay. I don't know the other two NPG albums to comment, but I think lead singer makes a difference, too. Most pop stars aren't responsible for their material, but it's still "their" album, like Whitney for example.

So while we know the Family (and many other albums by Time, Vanity 6, etc) are basically just creations of Prince I wouldn't call them Prince albums because he's not the star. But he's the star of NPS.

Someone ovah in the Music:Non-Prince forum thought that that one song "A E I O U" by Freeez sounded like Prince.
I was all like " Bitch, pleeez....! talk to the hand"

I have awful difficulty deciding on 3 here, as most of his output since 1991, is for me a mood thing, but the following get alot of play still:

1.Crystal Ball (all 4 cd´s)
2.Chaos and Disorder
3.3121

if i was pushed to pick the best:

1. D&P
2. TGE
3. 3121 (or TRC, although I would have to listen to this alot more, as i still find it a difficult album to listen to)
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Come - The band was air-tight; the atmosphere brooding, but intentful; and (most of) the songs came across fairly inspired. The whole "Prince is dead" bit was stupid and the spoken-word interludes were mediocre at best IMO, but musically this was the sole project between Lovesexy and the Rainbow Children that wasn't fatally dogged by gimmickry, commercial fluff and overproduction.

The Rainbow Children - This project wasn't perfect, and it was hardly as "controversial" as Prince seemed to intend for anyone other than his core fans. But it had really solid musicianship and it was an intriguing, enjoyable and brave conceptual statement from beginning to end.

N.E.W.S. or Xpectation -- I think these are both fairly pretentious, but I feel Prince was at least revisiting -- with an obviously matured sophistication -- ground that he could only baby around in in his Madhouse days. These albums showed respectable growth in Prince.

well then exodus should b in that regard since it's prince on lead and co vocal as well just his voice is altered
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I haven't heard Exodus, can't comment on that. Does anyone else sing lead on it?

I see the argument that NPS isn't a proper Prince album, or a fully realized Prince album.

To me it's something that tries to capture some of the feel of the JOTY tour, like a musical program instead of a paper one.

I wouldn't spend that much. I found a copy at a used CD shop. One could always download it through a pirating site. shhh As to the genre it's gritty funk party music, not a polished production and not meant to be.

I'd say:

prince, The Gold Experience and Planet Earth

I'd even extend to it 4 best and add Come to the list (another compact album like PE).
