Why no live CD from the 80s?

I was wondering why Prince never released a live album/tape during the 80's ? I am still praying the P lets Warners release Prince and the Revolution Live! Clearly I am more a revolution fan myself. His bands after never really moved me much. [disclaimer - this is my opinion. I am sure others enjoyed the New Power Generation] I would like to hear some CLEAR performances of the P & R. I have a few 'imports' cool which the quality is poor to so-so. Is there any hope of ole P doing that?

Some people quote other people when they can't think of anything of their own to say. wink

Waiting so long to release a live album, Prince generated a great deal of interest. Of course, he picked perhaps his crappiest album in years to serve as the major chunk of material performed.

Prince planned on releasing a live LP of the Parade Tour. There is a very clear version circulating recorded from a show in Paris. During the show, he tells the audience that the show is being recorded and it will "be a record".

Why was it never released? I don't know. Maybe Prince wasn't satisfied with some aspect of it. Either that or he simply changed his mind. (Maybe it was because Under The Cherry Moon didn't bring in Purple Rain numbers in the box office)

Considering the fact that Prince records pretty much all of his shows, it does boggle the mind that it's only been recently that a live album was officially released.

While I still dig Prince his bands have been a bit lackluster IMO. Great players but very generic. The Revolution were more colorful soundwise for my ears. the Lovesexy band was pretty good as well.

Well, he didn't release a live album in the 80s, but he did release 3 live videos: Live '85, Sign O The Times* and Lovesexy Live. There was more of a focus on the visuals in his 80s shows, so it makes sense to release them as videos as opposed to audio only.

*OK, this one's not really live, but you know what I mean wink

Not in the U.S.. At that point, he was pushing for popularity in Europe & we missed out on an amazing tour, mainly because it was too expensive a production & that album cover photo freaked too many people out.
