What music/albums by other artists were played before Prince concerts?

Mods: plz. do not move to "Concerts".
This is an attempt to map out Prince's CD collection.

The ones I remember: James Brown, Andreas Vollenweider.

During the JOTY shows, in Dallas, he played trax from Emancipation during the 1st show I saw. Then, during the 2nd show, it was a bunch of commercials advertising NPGMC stuff (like Crystal Ball).

During the Hit N' Run Tour, I don't recall what was played.

During the ONA tour, I remember instrumental stuff (Xpectation, I believe).

During the Musicology tour, I remember hearing NPGMC trax like Vavoom, The Dance, etc. mixed in with old stuff from The Family, Madhouse and previous albums.

At the 3121 club in Las Vegas, (December 2006) his DJ was spinning him of course. Then Sheila E. was mixed in. A soul train dance off was displayed on the 12 video screens surrounding the club and it was all 70's disco/funk music. I also remember some of 'The Time' playing as well as Beyonce. I know that I'm leaving so much out because there was so much playing and going on before the concert even begin. All of it was good music though. smile

Out of the shows I've been to:

Wembley Arena 1990: The Cinderella Theory by George Clinton

Wembley Stadium 1993: various Paisley Park videos and songs

Wembley Arena 1995: unreleased videos to "Empty room", "Zanalee", "The same December" "P control"

1998: Don't remember

Hammersmith 2002: Eric Leeds - Now & Again / George Benson - That's Right

o2 2007: Joni Mitchell - Hejira / Memories Of A Geisha

A better way to map out Prince's CD collection though might be to look at the songs he has performed live.

Not sure if this is mentioned in the ONA booklet but I am fairly sure that he owns some GOMAB material.

I also know that he likes INXS, because in London he played "I Need You Tonight" as a tribute to Michael Hutchence. (On November 22, 2007 it was 10 years since he died.)

Did he perform 'Need You Tonight'? When?

'What You Need' was certainly performed, but I've seen nothing to suggest that it was a tribute to Michael Hutchence.

Whoops! I meant "What You Need". (I was listening to "Need You Tonight" while I was typing.) I wasn't there, I read it on Wikipedia under Tribute:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._Hutchence

It states:

On many aftershows in London Indigo during his Earth Tour (21 nights in London), Prince played the song "What You Need" with Maceo Parker on saxophone to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Michael's loss.
