I'm sure he's probably questioned release dates, but I'm sure he's probably proud of everything he's released.

Seems like Prince has said in interviews that he doesn't regret any phase of his career (i.e. without his "slavery" WB contract he wouldn't appreciate the freedom he has today), so I would bet he feels the same about his back catalog. I doubt he spends much time (if any) listening to any of his own recordings for pleasure...I would bet he revisits them for tour rehearsals and training new band members, but that's about it.

I remember reading Prince saying that Parade was rushed and that he felt it could have been better. In trying to find the exact quote I came across this review of Parade, written just prior to its release. A neat read:

He regretted the hell out of the Black Album.

True. How strange that he would have regretted that album. I never heard an explanation of The Black Album that made any sense to me.

Me either. Something about not wanting to die and have that be the last album he released.

I think Prince said back in 2000 that he regretted making Parade. He thought it was all over the place or something like that. I don't agree but to each his own.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He regrets the prince album. He talked about it on his website, contrasting it with TRC and asking rhetorically which album sounds like it was recorded by a free artist.

Wow that was a good read. No love for the Around the World in a Day though... confused
And this quote was funny "But it's sometimes easy to forget that he's only 25 years old." Shows how much times change, by 25 you're starting to get a lil older nowadays (in the mainstream that is).
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

I find it funnier that they're saying he was 25 when he was 27 going on 28. I guess the record company lied about his age so he'd look like a "child prodigy". I wonder if record companies do that now. I bet Alicia Keys is actually 36 years old.

Yeah. The Black album is the only one he has so publicly denounced.

Apparently on one of the final listens (after the album had been produced and release dates set) he found the album too negative and aggressive!

It was from this that the more spiritual and positive sounding Lovesexy was born - making Black another extremely important part of his career.

Without it, would there have been Lovesexy?

Prince reminds me of the "Perfectionist," I am sure that artistically, Prince will always see room for improvement, when We as listeners find that many songs are perfect in their own shell.

someone find that

what he said about parade was that he always regretted not having enough
good and strong material for that album and that he released it perhaps
a bit too soon.

lol.

what a goon. that's typical prince. he just said that because he knows
that parade is one of his most beautiful and quirky albums that will b
considered a must have prince album now and in the future.

i mean "not enough strong material" ? wtf. he took of brilliant songs
like "others here with us" "all my dreams" "old friends 4 sale".

he had enough material alright. perhaps he regretted having taken some
of those stellar tunes off the album but i'm sure he knows as well as
the rest of the world that parade is one of his finest efforts.

I have been listening to this stuff... and the stuff I really liked back in the 90's... has turned to a pale of shit.. to be frank. And I am not trying to be cynic..

About 85% of every album in the 90's I will get to a point and think to myself... what the fuck was he thinking? most everything sounds over produced.. nothing minimal.. its pretty bad

He doesn't regret anything he's done because he understands why he did it at the time. All his songs are ONE song to him..... he's interested to hear what his last song will be....

In his words.

see, I think that album is a contender for the least worst... some of his shit like (symbol album, emancipation, rave, nps).. just amazes me he felt those songs were quality.

His ideas on every album are great, but the songs are drenched in so much production, it seems to lose value as time goes by.
