20 years of Prince fan-fanticism

This month marks my 20th anniversary of being a die hard Prince fan..ever since the 1999 single was released to radio. I had the singles Wanna Be Your Lover, and Controversy, liked Soft n Wet, but I wasnt a "fan"..just purchased hit singles I was into. When I heard 777-9311 on the radio I thought "Oh,that Prince has a new one but"..then it was stated that it was The Time. Ahhh. Then a few weeks later 1999 came out the same funky little
radio..."wtf?" I thought. All those voices ( all him since he does it all?),the synths, the bottom of the song etc..the imagery. went and purchased the single ( still have) and even the flip side was a cool ballad bluesy
number. So I thought "cool"..there will be two good jams on the record release. My friends were riding up to a local rec store (Majestic Sounds) to get some stuff..I gave them some money to pick me up the 1999 album. I
had expected the cover to be Prince in some space age get up with his hands on his hips and looking straight at you in some space zone. They bring back the album and the cover dissappointed me ..wtf? Then I put it on and the
ominous opening that wasnt on the single..huh...then the prolonged "partay" coda...damn! But it wasnt so radio friendly to my ears and took a lot of work to appreciate it like a limb. The video showing up all of a sudden
sealed the package and image. I guess this is how people felt when James Brown, Elvis, The Beatles, Litle Richard and others came out. You sort of feel immediately that you are going to follow this artist foreva..(foreva eva?...yes!). Everyone who has ever known me personally is definitely reminded of me whenever they hear a Prince song.Im reminded of that weekly, monthly, yearly etc. Even though we just met, I would like to thank you all for being a part of the last section of the twenty years as well...the sickness...like a pied piper...Power to the purple!

Happy Anniversary rdhull! I'm really happy for you. There's nothing in the world like being a fan of someone who can continually give you so much joy and I can't think of anybody else to be that devoted to other than Prince. Here's to another glorious and hopefully even better 20 years.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's good to see that Prince has fans that move through the years with him. I've been a fan since the 1999 single as well and I could relate alot to that post. music

I've been a fan since "Sexy Dancer." When I first heard "Soft & Wet" I wasn't feeling it. When "I Wanna be Your Lover" dropped, I didn't feel that either--in the beginning, then it grew on me. But, SD! And the long extended version of it too?! I was (am) disappointed that Prince The Hits/The B-Sides doesn't included this gem. Does anyone know why? I mean Warner Bros. could've left off "La, La, La, He, He, Hee" and included this classic.
