There are very fews songs ever written that have the beauty, strength and heart that a glorious epic like Purple Rain has.

I bet that if every1 of U leaves now and closes their eyes and listens 2 both songs back 2 back U will come back and crown Purple Rain victorious.

Yes Ok, the song gets mentioned as much as Prince does. But Prince hasnt written another quite like this. Still Would Stand All Time comes close in terms of epic, melodic proportions, but it was gospel. Were talking about a Rock power ballad that even ppl who misjudge Prince or cuss him and show their ignorance can relate and sway their head 2 while thinking what the words mean 2 them.

Sign 'O' The Times unique 2. The only person in the world who has written songs similar 2 this track is Prince himself. And even tho the lyrics and the hooks and the bass grab U, U cant feel the strong lyrics as U do in Purple Rain. True, SOTT is better lyrically, any1 couldve written PR's lyrics, but theres more passion, more desire, more emotion in the voice that sings Purple Rain.

Its Princes greatest anthem. And it gets my vote.

Goodbye Sign O' The Times -- I really like this song, but it shouldn't have gotten this far. I guess it's because you like the album it's from? -- most likely same reason "1999" stayed on this list so long which is a better song than "Sign". It really is simplistic -- the bass is bass-ically three notes, the synth and rhythm part is funky but doesn't change much, and there isn't much else going on. Thoughtful, political lyrics. I remember hearing this on the radio when it was released and thought that I might be able to get away with being a Prince fan in public once again, especially after that MTV performance -- I just wish he had followed it with something different than "Play In The Sunshine" -- "Housequake" would've been an awesome ending to the evening, getting the whole audience to jump up on the one! "Now you're having fun!"

"Purple Rain" is a classic song -- great chord progression, harmony and melody, lyrics, guitar, vocals!! This song could go on and on and on. I never tire of hearing him play this live -- at least not when he jams on his guitar to this song.

Purple rain. i'm tired of hearing that song. It's a great song but it's been overexposed through the years to the extent that i can't listen to it anymore.
